Hell I've grown up and live around BR my entire life and have yet to set foot in Blue Bayou... But, I have been to Disney 20 plus times.. probably a telling sign..
Blue Bayou is actually a legit water park with some outstanding rides which are actually much better than Disney's Wet 'n Wild, though not nearly as nice as Schlitterbon, which is probably the best in the country if not the world.
Blue Bayou's weakness is its management. If they kept Blue Bayou clean and well maintained, it would be one of the 10 best water parks in the country. The slides are that good and numerous.
Dixie Landin' just sucks. The rides are old, poorly maintained, and boring. Even the "Ragin' Cajun" is a far cry from being a legit roller coaster.

I don't doubt it. Every time I've passed that place I have always thought "Gawd that place looks nasty"
I guess growing up in the area you know what kinda people will frequent it and maybe its my germaphobe side chiming in...Regardless i'll still avoid it.

Schlitterbon,
I have never been.. My wife is from Texas and says it as legit as water parks get. Thinking about checking one out next summer.

Definitely do. It's just plain awesome.

What is the closest roller coaster to new orleans, besides the little on at Blue Bayou? Dallas? Atlanta? Since Astroworld closed i dont think there is anything within 8 hours.
Dude, we have a roller coaster IN New Orleans. The Ladybug in City Park is 47 seconds of sheer terror. Just wait til you plunge 11 feet at speeds up to 27 mph

Plans also include the building of an enclosed, international shopping center, twice the size of the Superdome in New Orleans
Wonderful, they are building a new shitty mall... How long before it's overrun with shoe stores and check cashing stores?

Wet 'n Wild was never owned by Disney. It was created by the creator of SeaWorld and purchased by Universal and is now slated to close since they're building their own, highly themed water park: Volcano Bay. Disney's water parks are Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. They also had the now closed River Country at the campgrounds near the Magic Kingdom.
As far as this proposal goes, I don't see it even coming close to reality. There have been several groups trying to pitch ideas for redevelopment of the site. The ones that get chosen never even get off the ground. The others that are typically concerned with re-opening the theme park hardly even get consideration. This idea, in particular, seems like a ridiculous failure from the start. The shopping mall idea is absurd. I don't see countries lining up to open stores there. The theme for the park is weak, at best. There's no way a high-rise resort hotel would come close to being profitable out in New Orleans East even with this development.
Also, did anyone else notice the blatant rip off of Montreal's Olympic Stadium in the video?

Did anyone watch the video all the way through and read the text at the end?

Festival Park & Transformation Village is a proposed world class resort in the city of New Orleans
It is the gateway to a masterplanned development of over 8 miles that will, in time, become a leading global tourist destination in the city that care forgot
Transformation Village will be the home of a new, sustainable and resiliant [sic] urban development with more than 10,000 new homes, Silicone Bayou - Louisiana's Technology Corridor the Fountainbleau Hotel - America's only 7 star hotel and several other theme parks, resort venues and economic drivers.

An extra 5,000 armed guards will be hired to avoid all of the tourist being robbed/killed while riding the Superman.

What's with the giant Noah's Ark too? That is bizarre.
