What antibiotic needs to be administered within 24-48 hours?

Streptomycin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxiflocian, and doxycycline are historically effective against Y pestis.

This means it can’t cause a pandemic. If it wipes out people that fast

It can if incubation period is lengthened, which they probably would do if it was weaponized.

Yes as well as the CDC. Symptomatic people need IV antibiotics and all contacts need prophylactic oral antibiotics for 7 days.

If this is accurate news. Who trusts axios and russian news? Who trusts àny news? If it is accurate our govt may not want to alarm. So what to believe?

quote:

Pneumonic plague is a severe lung infection that must be treated immediately with prescription antibiotics such as gentamicin or ciprofloxacin.

Treatment must start as soon as doctors suspect the disease, even before test results are ready. Waiting longer than 24 hours after symptoms begin greatly increases the risk of death.

First-Line Medicines

Doctors follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to choose the best medication. Recommended first-line antibiotics include:
• Gentamicin: An injection or intravenous (IV) liquid given into a vein or muscle.
• Streptomycin: A traditional injection medicine, though it can sometimes be hard to find.
• Ciprofloxacin: A fluoroquinolone antibiotic given as pills or through an IV.
• Levofloxacin: A fluoroquinolone given orally or through an IV.
• Moxifloxacin: A fluoroquinolone given orally or through an IV.
How Treatment Works
• Timing: Doctors usually start treatment using IV or injection methods for severe cases.
• Switching: Patients switch to oral pills once their condition improves.
• Duration: The full course of medicine lasts between 10 and 14 days.
• Hospital Care: Patients need hospital care, isolation away from others, and support like oxygen or IV fluids.
Preventing Illness in Contacts
• People who have close contact with an infected person must take preventive antibiotics.
• This preventive treatment usually lasts for 7 days.

You can bet it wasnt as simple as some peon walked into and out of a secure biolab.

Although plenty of people are dumb enough to believe that's what happened, especially if the media tells them to believe it.

Who here was aware that the Obama administration aerosolized Ebola? That came out in the news a few days ago and is a story that hasn’t received enough attention. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was some frickery involved in this Russia thing.

Which the USA does not have enough of if this becomes a pandemic. Most antibiotics are made in China or India which would quickly shutdown exports if this progresses past a scary news story and into a real problem.
