How?
That doesn’t somehow make it okay to shoot him in the back.
Whether he knew he was the guy or not is completely irrelevant in determining if this was a good or bad shot.

The car matched a description for a recent shooting as the same make, model, color, and with bullet holes in the bodywork. 2 guns were found in the vehicle, one of which had a caliber that matched the one used in the suspected drive by. The Supreme Court has ruled the the use of lethal force may be justified in order to stop a fleeing suspect when the officer has probable cause for a violent crime or threat of a violent crime having been committed, even if he is aware that the suspect is under 18 and/or unarmed. Painting the officer as an inexperienced racist will not unify America. When the media releases misleading story's like this with no understanding of the legal precedence and justification for the officers actions it causes more harm than the false narrative they're created.?

This one from the cell phone footage definitely looks bad, but I thought the exact same thing the first time I saw the first cell footage of AS.
AS had a fricking gun on him and wrestled with the cops.
This guy was unarmed and running away.
They aren't even comparable.

If he knew 100% for sure (i.e. witnessed it) that this guy slaughtered people in cold blood and was running through a neighborhood, he would have a lot more justification.
It still wouldn’t justify shooting him in the back though. His second statement says he saw no gun.

This is exactly what is wrong with this "I gotcha" society. 3 seconds of a shaky cell phone video and it looks clear cut to me.
When it’s 3 seconds of shaky cell phone video supposedly showing culcha commiting a crime though........

AS was reaching for the gun too for fricks sake.
Terrible comparison.

I disagree because protecting others would be involved. If Ted Bundy was running towards a sorority house with nothing in his hands, it'd be lawful to shoot him in the back.
Again, not the case here. The cop had no idea if this guy was even guilty of anything.

He should get a mulligan or something.
IIRC he has been an officer for a few years with another department.

Whether or not the guy running had actually committed the crime in question is wholly irrelevant.
That is both factually and legally incorrect.
In certain instances, deadly force may legally be used against a fleeing felon. If the person is reasonably believed to have committed a violent felony and there is a justifiable belief that his escape may result in the harm of others, then deadly force is justified. For example, a guy just shot up a school and is now running towards a church. Are you going to let him escape just because you don't see a gun at that moment? (Hold the calls of hyperbole, I am simply trying to illustrate here.) Additionally, it is perfectly acceptable to shoot someone in the back if they have already engaged you in violent conflict and you believe they are now moving to cover in order to better their tactical position. (Probably not applicable here but I don't know yet.)
In this case, the officer stopped a car that matched the color and make/model of a car just involved in a drive-by shooting. THE REAR WINDOW OF THE CAR HAD BULLET HOLES IN IT. There were firearms in the floorboard of the car visible to the officer. There were multiple individuals in the car that weren't being fully cooperative.
I can't say one way or the other if the shooting was justified without more facts but the circumstances above lend themselves to a deeper conversation than a simple "he shot a guy in the back."

They are 100% comparable. The cops did not know for a fact that AS had a gun on him until it went to the ground, they just knew AS matched the description of the guy in question. In this case, the car matched.
In the first cell footage of AS, I thought it looked like he was pinned and not moving when shot. Again, it's what I thought. After I watched the second video, I changed my mind.
In this case, I agree the officer appears to be in the wrong but like any case, I want all the facts/videos/etc before I make a judgement.

Yeah usually these things work out the way they should.
Not sure if serious. It is incredibly difficult to get a conviction in police shootings. That guy in Arizona walked free.

He didn’t have a weapon.
We had this discussion in a previous thread about this shooting. If he had a gun and was running towards people, that’s different. He had no gun.
This is going to be tough since the cop admitted he saw empty hands. I guarantee if he’s convicted, the BLM types won’t care about Rose anymore. Doesn’t fit the narrative when the bad man goes to jail.

What was the reason for the dismissal? Do we know? I'm sure that'll be brought up in court if it relates to this at all. "Character".
it hasn't been released, but the University of Pittsburgh did turn the file over the investigators prior to he being charged

No, actually, the problem is he shot and killed an unarmed individual who was running away from him and thus posed no threat. Whether or not the guy running had actually committed the crime in question is wholly irrelevant.
To be fair, there are situations where deadly force is authorized even while escaping if there is a reasonable belief the person is of great harm to the public. I don't recall the specific wording.
That will be difficult to prove in this instance as it's not like the officer saw Rose kill someone then run away.

Dude was running away, police shot him in the back.
With that said, police are put in situations the general public do not have to be in. There are other factors that can contribute to their decision making or cause them to react, out of emotion.. And while they are trained not to act/react out of emotion, that is what makes us human and there are going to be times when it isn't just that easy.
With that said, in theory, there should be a different set of laws for police officers. As in, they don't receive the same sentence that would be handed down to everyone else, but then that would be helping the police officers who do have true criminal intent. Either way, it's it's a situation in which no one really wins.

Unless it's in Texas where you can shoot a thief if he is fleeing with stolen property.

Damn right we can. Texas is God’s country.

The casual viewer not willing to dig any deeper is left under the impression this person was shot at random. The cop may be proven to have screwed up- badly, but.....
That this was a suspected carjacker seems to have been buried underneath pictures of him as a 14 year old.
If anything, this should be taken as a reminder that criminal activity usually leads to very harsh consequences- 100% warranted, or otherwise.

Idk, running isn’t cause for execution, it’s a moot point.
