What, were the cops mad he stole their kill?

ETA: isn’t the usual rule for if a dog, especially a pit, bites someone, it’s supposed to be destroyed?

While choking it to death in the front yard may not have been the best course of action I have had to put an aggressive dog down. Stupid law as the animal would have been euthanized anyway had she filed a report from the bite.

There's a pretty stark difference between having a dog humanely euthanized and strangling a dog to death. I know this board has a blood feud with pitbulls and pit mixes, but to strangle a 25 pound animal to death over the span of several minutes is the behavior of a sociopath who should not be around animals or children.

IDK, I'd kind of like to share a beer with the guy and show him my baby.

I don't blame the guy for putting the dog down, but by choking it to death? Ok,if it maimed or killed your child, then frick all bets are off, choke that fricker out.
But a bite? Just shoot the dog, get it over with fast.

Dude did what he had to do. People put down dogs with guns all the time. Not much of a difference. Probably cost a couple hundred to get a dog euthanized

I get the blood lust against pitbulls, but this is what he should have done.

And the vet would have charged like $300

We have some incredibly stupid laws in our country. This guy is charged with a felony for killing his own dog. What business does the government have in what he does to his own pet?
What was he supposed to do, pay for it to go to anger management?

I kinda agree. This didn't seem like random animal cruelty, but rather someone putting down a dangerous dog. Of course, we don't know specifics either, and how the bite occurred. For example, if the dog bit her because she kicked it in the face, then that's a different story.

My question is how the police got involved in the first place? He killed his dog at 1:00 in the morning in his own yard. Did someone witness it and call the cops? Did he call them on himself (or the girlfriend)?

Maybe he's a felon and can't own a gun?

My poor dog is getting near the end. The thought of handling his demise myself has crossed my mind, but I'll just suck it up and pay the vet when it's time.

What if....

Guy loses his job due to Covid shutdowns imposed by the government.

Dog bites woman

Guy doesn’t have money to pay a vet.

Doesn’t want to break the law by shooting a gun in city limits.

Resorts to only resolution he knows.

Government charges him with a crime for a problem caused by decisions they made.

I mean, stranger things have happened.

Umm yeah if he’s a psychotic animal with centuries of aggression and killing tactics bred into him and he starts attacking people. Isn’t that kinda normal?

Was kinda wondering the same thing. Doesn't seem like much of a fight. That said, if a pit is charging you, there is only one option. If you aren't armed, you fight it and you do exactly what this guy did. It's going to scratch and likely get some teeth on you at some point, but you hang on until it's dead. Your minor wounds will be better than the other possible outcome.

ETA: In this case, though, shooting it would have been the better option.

If you idiots are afraid of a 25lb dog that is "allegedly" a pit bull mix(the most overused and usually untrue bullshite) then you've got issues greater than a dog. Know your dog breeds people. There's only one pit bull terrier breed and in many instances it isn't the dog accused.
