I actually worked for a trucking company with roughly 1000 tractors and 2000 trailers (which makes it one of the largest trucking companies back in Arkansas) and they didn't let a single mile go wasted.
Walmart is very efficient

I mean there's a federal and state tax on all fuel, usually applied at the state level when they "break bulk".

Paying per mile to cover highway upkeep is not the worst thing. Replacing gas taxes with per mile taxes means that all road users share the cost, including electric vehicle drivers that otherwise no longer contribute to the gas tax that is designed to help with road upkeep. On top of that, gas used for non-driving purposes (boats, lawn mowers, etc) would theoretically cost less. This might not be the worst thing ever.

The infrastructure has to be paid for somehow.
What are the OT suggestions on paying for new and upkeep for our roads, bridges and highways?

Stop giving money to other countries. Stop bringing people into this country to simply vote and receive government benefits. Stop wasting tax dollars. Off the top of my head.
Then you could fund anything and everything that is necessary for government to fund without raising more taxes at all.

So you want to use income tax receipts to pay for the roads.

You know how much of our money is wasted and "lost" by those slimy shite pieces in DC? Those idiots could pay for all of that if they weren't stealing us blind.

At this point my views align closer with the Taliban than my own government.

Why not just impose the per-mile tax on electric vehicles?
Posted on 8/10/21 at 6:25 pm to captainahab
Something needs to change with the emergence of EVs. They’re skirting gas taxes right now and a straight mileage tax is basically the same thing as a mileage tax just has a fuel efficiency component. Baws with F250s are already paying more than their fair share because they get shitty mileage. Might as well just put everything on an even playing field. Fuel efficiency and road usage don’t really align where as mileage does.

Read slower.

We're already taxed per mile. It's in the gasoline taxes.

In my area you'd be lucky to make 2 days without getting popped.
The tax collectors don't miss a morsel.

I’d stop giving other countries billions of dollars, worry about our citizens and our infrastructure before giving a shite about anyone else.

I know nothing of this plan but honestly a mile tax would be more fair across the board than taxes on gas
They want to make driving too expensive for ordinary people.
That’s why they’re doing it.
