I can smell that picture
In those days we didn't notice the smell because hell, it seemed like all the adults smoked in their home, in restaurants, and at work. As much as I would like to re-live some of those days, I don't know if I could handle everyone smoking everywhere and stinking things up.
Then again, I look at pictures of favorite uncles and aunts and grandparents long past away and figure I could handle it for awhile just to be able to talk to them again.

I miss the smell of pipe tobacco.
I bought my grandparents house from their estate. It was mostly cleaned out, but I found a ziplock sandwich bag sized amount in my grandfather's closet.
I still have it 30 years later and it takes me back.

Yep. Both of my parents as well as all of my aunts an uncles smoked.
Sometimes i think about those days and if i had been a kid that smoked, they never would have smelled it on me.

We stayed at the White Caps back in the 60s. It was in the middle of nowhere. This is a 1970 Aerial photo.
This site has dozens of historic Alabama aerial photos. Gulf Shores is especially interesting as you can see the explosion in development.

Does anyone know if there is a similar index of historical aerial photos for Louisiana and Mississippi?

Hurricane Frederic in 1979 took out a butt load of old beach cabins and began the condo build up of GS/OB.

I am getting an error at the moment but www.historicaerials.com can be a source.
I believe Google Earth also has historic images but never tried.

There were exceptions of areas out West but maybe it was at the behest of the Agriculture Department or the Interior Department?
I know we have an aerial photograph of our family farm in the Mid-Atlantic region from 1927 that I’m told was part of that survey.

Reminds me of that hooker trailer scene from Smokey and the Bandit for some reason.

Interesting to look at my property in Alabama through the years and see how much the area has changed.
