Audubon Zoo has been doing it for years
The Baton Rouge Children's Museum also does this
quote:
Year-round, Orleans Parish Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants with a valid government-issued photo ID that matches their SNAP card enjoy $3.00 admission per ticket to Audubon Zoo or Audubon Aquarium and Insectarium for up to five as long as one of the five is an accompanying adult to any Audubon facility. SNAP tickets may only be purchased at admission windows with valid SNAP Card AND New Orleans/Orleans Parish ID.
The Baton Rouge Children's Museum also does this
quote:
Reduced-price tickets are available at the door for $5 per ticket with an adult EBT card and matching valid Louisiana ID for up to 5 people

this is really good for all folks attending. Now the straight guys can avoid Tuesdays and sundays when the fatties, loud mouths attend.

It is wild how much some of these places charge now.
Everything is too expensive in the USA for the average person.
Our labor has been priced out of the global market for the most part. We're in very bad shape.

Next thing you know, Epcot Center will be considered a museum and then when people have an Epcot ticket they can get a massive discount at Magic Kingdom or the other parks
Book it.
Book it.

We tend to punish success and reward failure in this country. Things are completely backwards to how they should be. We should encourage success not punish it.

Are any of these places necessary for survival? Not sure why we are supporting entertainment of any kind.

Become an Audubon Family Member +1 for less than $200
And go to the zoo and aquarium free all year, not sure if it covers the insectarium anymore, of which may be attached with the aquarium as-of the last 1-2 years.
Every Spring, fall and winter, many weekends spent enjoying the nature, animals & weather. If you use the membership, it’s the best money spent.

Of all the ways my taxpayer dollars are waste a kid going to the zoo is the least of my concern
But it’s part of the bigger waste called transfer payments.
That’s where we have to make cuts if we want to tackle debt.
But here you are saying it’s the least of your worries. So don’t get mad when we keep increasing debt.

They all axed for you, yeah they even inquired about ya.

wait, it doesn't say they pay to enter the zoo with ebt, just that if they're on ebt they get a cash discount. i'm fine with that.

They aren't doing this from the goodness of their heart. They aren't taking a loss. The money is coming from somewhere.

My son will perpetually qualify for EBT regardless of our income, maybe I am missing out on some discounts???
Its like $150 a year because of our income, but, he will always get the minimum amount regardless of our income. But we do have the card!
My wife buys snacks for him and his classmates with them if anyone really wants to know, they all have disabilities of some sort. Honestly, she spends more than the Food stamp amount, often WAY more for those kids.

My daddy used to say... "The middle class has it worse than all the others. The poor are giving everything, the rich can buy everything and the middle class pays the taxes".
This seems to be a good example of that.

Credit companies didn't get the memo.

Does the zoo get reimbursed for this? If so, your argument is recognized. If not, it's a private zoo and they can give a discount to whomever they want to. If it pisses people off enough, they'll stop donating or going.
And who knows. Maybe one of those kids goes to the zoo on Tuesday, falls in love with animals, and applies themselves in school to study more about them and makes something of themselves. Is it likely? Probably not. Is it possible? Yes, and I'm okay with giving those kids that chance.

I don't think food stamps should exist, but if it's going to exist, giving them a discount at a zoo isn't going to move the needle for me.
I agree somewhat, but if big daddy government supplements all aspects of a person's life, they have no incentive to better themselves. If they get a job (or a better job) and no longer qualify for EBT, then that $40 trip to the zoo all of a sudden becomes $160 for 4 adults.
So, for example, if this system happened here, we personally pay for BREC through property taxes, then have to 100% support our own children, and then pay the full fee at the zoo. That's pretty messed up.

At what point are you no longer “fine with it”?
Do you think everything should be price adjusted based on income, or just zoo tickets?

$140 for a family of 4 (not on food stamps) to go to the zoo. I’m sorry, but that’s retarded.
If you're a LA resident, the membership is excellent.
