I mean, it sort of looked like dogshit, the way Mitch left it. It's all so stupid.

I mean...did you really want an empty base to just sit there?

They're just removing a graffiti target at this point. Landrieu left an eyesore there when the statue was removed.

On WWL this morning Mike Hammer said that they were removing the granite from the pedestal. If they take the granite and leave the crappy bricks it’s gonna look like a turd in a punch bowl right at the entrance to the park.

Correct.
I think the media should have hammered it about leaving it like that. If his dumbass could find the money to remove the monument, he damn sure should have been forced to remove everything.
I hope they get something really nice to put there. It's a nice few coming in at that entrance, especially when flowers and such are in bloom.

It was a really pretty statue driving into that space.
Nobody really gave a shite who it was in this day and age until Mitch decided he needed an issue to spur his presidential campaign.

Landrieus job with that was about one of the laziest things I've seen. Absolutely no plans or initiatives to put anything in their place. The people he was claiming to help should actually be insulted because he was only doing it as the main talking point for his presidential run in 2020.

Cantrell really had no choice. Dumbass Mitch left what was a once beautiful statue / area looking like complete dogshit.

Good. Nothing left for either side to whine about. Go live your life.

City Park is doing this, not the city of NOLA. Cantrell ain't done crap here. City Park is tired of this pathetic eyesore outside NOMA and just want it out.
Also...
That's interesting

Will the base fit in the shed?

You hear that? It’s the sound of New Orleans violent crime plummeting.

I forgot that he gave Anderson Cooper a tour of it.

They should move the homeless to the shed and fix the eye sore under the Claiborne and Calliope overpass.

Mitch Landrieu: In a city that I represent, that's 67% African-American, to have a young African-American girl pass by that statue and look at it every day, I ask myself, "Am I really preparing for her-- a really good future? Is she feeling like she's gettin' lifted up by the government or is she being put down?" I mean, I think the answer's pretty clear.
Mitch Landrieu: Really what these monuments were, were a lie.
Anderson Cooper: A lie in what sense?
Mitch Landrieu: Well, in the sense that-- that Robert E. Lee was used as an example to send a message to the rest of the country, and to all the people that lived here, that the Confederacy was a noble cause. And that's just not true.
Mayor Landrieu agreed to show us what's become of Generals Lee and Beauregard – they've been gathering dust for more than a year.
Mitch Landrieu: That-- that's the first time I've seen 'em there.
Anderson Cooper: Is that right?
Mitch Landrieu: Uh-huh. Yup. They're pretty daunting.
