I was considered one of the best equestrian statues in the country

I think Mitch left them there on purpose to piss off the folks that wanted them to stay.

It will be proudly displayed in its new home at the seat of Beauregard Parish on the Square in DeRidder.

you think too highly of him. It wasn't a well thought out plan at all, just a publicity stunt to garner himself national headlines. Had he truly given a damn they likely would have taken their time and had a plan in place with something to replace them with so they weren't just eye sores around the city. Those things had been there for decades, what's a few more months? But hey Mitch needed headlines quickly. The guy is the worst kind of political whore.

You hear that? It’s the sound of New Orleans violent crime plummeting.

City of New Orleans now says they don’t own the land. City Park owns it. Talk about doing a complete 180. The City Of New Orleans does not own the PGT Beauregard statue. They removed it and stole it.

Not to mention, the man who invented the street car (not that it’s an iconic symbol of New Orleans).
Also, a beautiful piece of art.

The historical book "City Park New Orleans” by archivist Sally Reeves and her husband, Bill (Tulane Ph.D. in history), written with Ellis P. Laborde, the park's longtime chief, recounts the history of how the statue came to be placed there in conjunction with the PGT Beauregard Monument Association and that "park officials gave the association $1,000 for the marble pedestal beneath the statue …” says page 110 of the book, published by Friends of City Park. $1,000 in today's dollars is roughly $25K. Lesson: DO NOT EVER VOTE FOR A MILLAGE TO SUPPORT CITY PARK IF ONE IS EVER PLACED ON A BALLOT.

You got the political whore part right but I think you are 100% wrong on the bases being left by lack of planning. I believe Moon, not Mitch, orchestrated this whole thing to keep the Landrieu name relevant with Mitch running in 2020 and I believe the statue bases were left in place on purpose. Think about it, if they cleared everything out what is there to remind people of what they did? You leave the eyesore base and every time people see it they think of Mitch and the statues.

I passed by around 10am.
Thought they are fixing it to support a new statue.
They had a wwl camera out there.

I'd like a statue of Tom Benson.
Seriously.
Maybe Andrew Higgins too.
Higgins would be a good choice for Lee Circle. His factories used that area.

You give them too much credit...if they were that smart that fricking count Mary would still have a job

So you want them to keep that ugly-arse base there with no statue on it? ...kay.
