Dumb. Let's just rename the whole fricking city Jazz Land. New Orleans is much more than just black musicians. They have their HUGE place and rightfully so but come on.
Should we name shite after rich jewish people?

Why remove one historically significant figure and replace with another? Makes absolutely no sense except to placate some angry, noisy people.
Give Allen Toussaint his recognition in another place in the city. Put the cable cars back over the river and call it the GNO Toussaint Cable Car System. Build the German Beer Garden back from the World's Fair and call it the Toussaint Beer Garden. Change the name of the Superdome to the Toussaintdome!
But at the end of the day, who cares?

Nope I would rather it be named for Dr. John
That would be the right place, but the wrong time

Glad you guys enjoyed it. I've been jamming out to Dr. John in my office ever since posting it.
He was amazing to watch at Jazzfest.

Sounds like a great name for a dive bar to place near that intersection.

Robert E. Lee still has his avenue in Gentilly so let's name it Toussaint Circle. It is correctly pronounced as, "too-sant," not "too-sahnt."

I'm all for this. Think it's a perfect solution to the issue.

You think a shite ton of stuff isn't named for rich Jews?
(FTR - I have no problem with a rational discussion of naming something after Toussaint, but don't be surprised when folks push a white dude like Dr. John, who is far more internationally reknowned. Toussaint is rightly regarded as a leader in Louisiana music, but so are the Nevilles, so were The Meters, Dr. John - the fact that Toussaint was such a selfless gentlemen and not all that concerned with self-promotion probably hurts his case, unfortunately).

Only Louis Armstrong could approach his stature, and of course he has a park named in his honor.
Armstrong International Airport as well.
What direct link does Lee have to New Orleans?
