I forgot about you. You can be smart or successful, but not both. Pick one.

Let's not get crazy here. I know it's the Land of Fruits and Nuts but Los Angeles beats the crap out of Baton Rouge.
True.

Meh, some of these are more clever than others. This one isn't great.
True, lets just be happy that we got one that's more clever than a LucasP thread this time

I'd feel better if you shot yourself in the head.

I lived there for 9 years after college. I really didn't have a problem there until my kid got old enough for school. The area is pretty good for young married couples. I really don't get the hate for the area.
I had a pretty good job, was able to pay a 15 year mortgage off in 8 years, and I was comfortable the whole time. Yeah there are better places to raise a family but you need to get over yourself.

Baton Rouge is one of the worst college towns I've been to...don't know why anyone would hang around there for more than 3-4 years

There are still plenty of jobs there. Hardly any of the other college towns can boast they are more than just a college town. As long as there is industry and opportunities in the private sector in BR, you will have a considerable number of people stay after school.
There are plenty of better college atmosphere towns, sure. Not even debatable IMO. But you are not even factoring in the opportunities available for graduates after college.

Just asking out of curiosity, but other than the smog and high cost of living, what sucks about LA?

Hence why most LSU grads bolt for Houston the minute they get their diploma

TRAFFIC. It was well over 90 minutes each way to where I was going each day. frick that shite. Seriously.
CROWDS. Everywhere you go its crowded. Just an overpopulated area.
ILLEGALS. Everywhere. So many people don't speak english.
I was supposed to be there for a year for an internship and quit 5 months in. It was that bad.

I've been to L.A. once and for a day. Didn't get to see much, but I don't really see the appeal of it.

Economy of scale. And it's less than 25%
I'd wager that the number of Tennessee and USCe grads that bolt from Knoxville and Columbia (only real peer SEC towns to BR) to ATL, Charlotte, etc are the same if not greater.
