People who think of their pets as children are the goddammned worst.
And no, in normal reality it is never assumed that dogs are welcome.

I had a parent scold me yesterday, they were not watching their kid and it ran up to my dog and my dog snapped at the kid. Parents fussed at me that my dog snapped, I asked why they were not watching their kid and letting it run wild. My dog was on a leash sitting on a bench next to me.

Nope but you have babysitters. I don’t want your crying brat over shitting it’s pants and knocking everything over.

Exactly, and they also expect people to watch and care for their kids.

How fricking annoying and inconsiderate is that? We have a get-together/watch party last night for the LSU game and this invited couple just decides to show up with their overgrown Golden Doodle. Needless to say, I was pretty peeved.

The dumb thing was a fricking hassle as he was overly excited all night. They march him in through the front door and I passive-aggressively made it clear that I didn't want it in the house. I put him out back where the grill and a small gathering was. I didn't want it next to the grill - in which he was always nosing around and licking at the grill's utensils. That was fricking annoying. One of our friend's daughters was recently nipped at by a Dauschsund, so she was terrified all night. And then, he fricking knocked over a guest's curious toddler who then proceeds to cry uncontrollably for 30 minutes.

Just a complete shitshow. Before you bring your dog over to someone else's home, just fricking ask first. Is that too much to ask?

and those damn kids should stay off your lawn too.

It should be assumed today that dogs are always welcomed.

As a host, you should have made it clear otherwise.

OP, you sound like a dick for not being generally welcoming of dogs in your home.

But i also think your guests who brought the dog over were out of line for not asking first.

Both things can be true.

had it been a Golden Retriever you would have had a great time. But I understand your pain... golden doodles are ugly as hell. but EITHER WAY... dogs>children. frick bringing a child to watch a football game. that would be the thing that annoys me. Get a baby sitter or do not come to my house

Never bring your dog without asking. And honestly unless the person’s house who you are going to have dogs....they probably don’t want you to bring your dog.

Also, Golden Doodles are an overrated breed for suburbian white women. It’s like a Tahoe except a dog.

I don’t really disagree with your stance, but you really are being a little bit of a bitch about it.

I was at a family function and a mutual friend shows up with her 3 dogs. Had to explain to her that the very young children there do not know hot to interact with dogs which could lead to a dog bite. Her roommate said "the doggos are friendly". Disregarded her the rest of the day. The kids just wanted to play with them and they were cornering and scaring the dogs. Took the time to try and teach the kids how to interact with the dogs. Crap like that scares me for little kids.

I read the first 20 posts of this thread and no one has given the the appropriate answer. Next time, invite everyone but them. When they or others ask why they weren’t invited, simply respond that you didn’t want their dog over so you decided to avoid that confrontation.

This will lead to others saying why didn’t you tell them not to bring the dog. Again state, I wanted to avoid any confrontation.
