gate lice

quote:

For me, the worst are the gate lice. These folks are in Zone 5, row 58 & they begin standing in front of the gate 30 mins before boarding. Then when everyone is trying to get on, they stay there in everyone's way. Total lack of awareness.

Thanks for early morning laugh.

Accurate description. I’d also rate them below the “immediately stand up at seatbelt off sign and rush out before plane stops rolling “ crowd.

Gate lice should be a trademarked.

Then they proceed to baggage claim, where they stand up against the carousel waiting for their luggage…blocking others from grabbing theirs.

Take a few steps back. You can see your stuff, and not block everyone.

Yes. I fly a lot, used to see it predominantly in South America. Now it’s every time I fly.

I was in Colombia 3 weeks ago and saw the total opposite. They had a separate we've arrived at the gate ding and get up and go ding.

Everyone obeyed an it was so weird

I fly once or twice a month and I very rarely see this phenomenon you are making up. But I don't fly Spirit so maybe that's it

The same people who drive up a merge lane and cut in only to gain 20 car lengths to save 5 minutes on a 60 minute trip..

Not even close to the same thing. You merge at the end of the lane, not the beginning, to improve traffic flow when it's congested and when it's not you do it to gain speed to merge at a speed close to that of the other cars in the travel lanes.

It's really wierd. I recently went to a vacation destination and half of the plane was in a big hurry to get off the plane so they can wait at baggage.

You have to have a goal.

It's a commentary on where society is heading. Can't quite put my finger on it. Gimmee a second...

The same people who go to the Health Club to run on the treadmill mill for 10 miles and just have to park next to the front door.

I had a flight from San Juan to Miami and it was like whoever got off first won $1m. Complete chaos.

People are idiots. Attendants need to be in the aisle controlling it.

Airport and airplane etiquette is a thing to witness. From the idiotsvat the check in counter who take forever to the people at security that don't have a clue. Lolpoors in group 5 who think it's general boarding on the plane. And the people who block the aisle for minutes while putting up their bag, headphones etc. And of course rushing up the aisle.
All above are people who have no idea how to travel. I have long said that at the airport there needs to be a line for those who know what they are doing and a line for those who don't. And it is marked on your boarding pass.
This theory is also useful at the grocery checkout line.

In the early days that's what the TSAPre line was for. Now that thing is full of idiots that have no clue what they are doing. Clear has been saving my sanity at the airport now.

Interesting, i flew out of Atlanta last month. Buddy had Clear and I “cleared” security faster without.

Maybe its just Atlanta.

I agree people are just anxious and stupid. This is why I hate to fly. The percentage of people that think they know but don’t is astounding

I understand what you're saying but, even for terminal destinations, there could be a very real reason why someone is rushing off the plane.

Maybe they're visiting a sick relative and are desperate to see him/her or there's a bus leaving the terminal at a certain time that they have to catch.

Most of the time, they're being jerks trying to rush off, but there are times when there's legitimate reasons.

I've been on several flights where it was behind schedule. I would say that the majority of the time the sky waitress would get on the mic and request that people who do not have a connection stay seated so that the people who do can get off first. With some small exceptions it is complied with.

I like it. Keeps the idiots that come rushing down from the back from passing.

Its truly amazing.

My line of work is similar, I get to see Karen when she's pissed. You can easily lose faith in humanity.

People really stress when traveling, even if for fun. I think they just like being miserable.

I always just sit. I never walk past someone trying to exit from their row that is ahead of me. Funny watching someone stand in the isle while I sit and we both exit the plane at the same time.

No, not that many people on every flight are claustrophobic. Some people are impatient, non-caring assholes.
