Unless you are driving a freight truck or some other large commercial vehicle and need to either unload or pick up something, there is typically no reason why you should have to back into a spot.

Other than the FACT that every defensive driving course HIGHLY recommends it.

Trucks have a much tighter turning radius in reverse. That's the answer, plain and simple. When it's tight it's actually faster to back into a space than it is to try to turn into it forward, not make it, back up, straighten out, and go in head-first again. Plus it's faster to get out that way.

Well with that logic someone will be waiting. Either you wait for them to back in, or if they don't back in someone waits for them to back out.

You have to back up at some point either way. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

I don't drive into parking spaces unless they are angled...backing in is safer

i drive a long-wheel base f350

i decided to not back in to a parking spot at the office one day and ended up being stuck there after work until one of the cars parked next to me moved. waited for about an hour.

I like difficult parking spots.

The skill comes in handy on occasion. I parallel parked a 42' RV last Friday. Cake.

just saying there is a very practical reason for some to back into parking spots, it's not just because we are all dipshits

It's not the act itself. It's women trying to do it that have no business doing it. They take about 3 or 4 reverse/forward movements to back in. And are still backed in the spot all cockeyed and crooked.

If you drive a pickup, backing in is FAR easier.

would be more forgiving if the only parking options were tight quarters

I don't really care if you are forgiving or not. Deal with it.
