How about leasing an Audi and renting an apartment? My BIL is about to marry one like this and they just bought a house and she now is "looking for a job"

How did they get approved for a house?

Balance. I want to do want I want to do now but still put away enough so I can continue to do so in the future.

Momma co-signed

My thought is if you need a consigner then you don't to be buying

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Mind your own business.

I am talking about those upper class neighborhoods like Highland Park, TX

You can buy a long term family house in this school district for a million dollars. That is not outrageous considering the types of people your kids will grow up around, and the connections they will make.

its amazing, I drive through highland park and park cities in Dallas and its just neighborhood after neighborhood of million dollar homes.

im always like WTF are these guys doing for a living??

many people are house poor but you have to remember that those millionaire dollar houses take up a lot more space than apartments or tract housing. So the population density is much lower, and it gives you false perspective.

Too many people are too caught up in the idea of owning a house ASAP. If the AC blows up, they're frickED.

A paid off cheaper house >>>> a mortgaged to the hilt high-end mansion

Of course, my rented trailer home is <<<< than either one, but I can dream!

I bet a lot do but that's their right. Personally I don't see the appeal. Much rather spend the money on 20+ acres and build an estate there.

Certainly. But the successful ones, the ones with good parents, are usually not bad people to know.

There is a lot of what you're referring to out there. It is just more commonly in in places like University Park or Lake Highlands or Frisco than somewhere like Highland Park.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners are probably the most likely candidate, as many of them grow quite talented in 1) giving off the false appearance of success and 2) moving/holding assets in a manner as to greatly exaggerate wealth.

I've seen entrepreneurs leverage out their college-aged kids to avoid having to get a real job.

I have a cousin who is a lawyer in Dallas and he went to SMU. He lives in Highland Park and brings makes 800K a year. He told me just last week after his mortgage, cars and private school tuition for his kids and credit card bills he has about $2000 a month in disposable income and they don't really have much at all in savings or retirement.

An investment broker talked to me about this topic a few yrs back. He said a lot of these folks in the huge new homes and two high dollar cars in the drive are in hoc up to their eyeballs.
He said if they miss two weeks of work( no pay) It all comes apart. I definitely believe it. I see it. Credit is too easy to obtain nowadays.
Oh well-back to work !

How many of the residents in these neighborhoods have a house of cards of debt just so they can say that they live in these exclusive fancy neighborhoods?

Dunno. You should call them up and do a survey.

in my college days I was fooling around with the mistress of a guy whose family was rumored to be worth around $500 mil. I'd see his Mom riding around in a Rolls Royce late at night with a chauffeur. Was told she was taking a boatload of psyche meds and couldn't even dress herself in the morning - maid had to dress her. Nice family though.
