I have a cousin who is a lawyer in Dallas and he went to SMU. He lives in Highland Park and brings makes 800K a year. He told me just last week after his mortgage, cars and private school tuition for his kids and credit card bills he has about $2000 a month in disposable income and they don't really have much at all in savings or retirement.
He is paying about twenty grand or more in property taxes and not utilizing one of the best school systems in Texas that would be free of charge. Tuition for two is probably running him what, thirty, forty grand per year?
He probably drives an S65 AMG - wonder if he flinched at the quarter million price tag or if he just got hard spending that much money on a car that will take him to work and to Rex's so he can pick up his sushi grade fish, undoubtedly prepared by his Brazilian Au Pair.

It's amazing how much money people will spend just to avoid living near black people

There are some like that and some that are better off, just like every neighborhood. I know at least a couple of people making $300k and living paycheck to paycheck.

If one believes the premise of your statement, I'm sure the residents of Ferguson, MO. feel its worth every penny.

yep. All depends on their spending/savings habit or lack thereof.

I drive through an area covered with million dollar plus homes every day, and have been doing do so for years, I have noticed when the economy takes a downturn the most expensive house are the first ones to go up for sale, and have the largest number of house for sale. You would think that if a person bought a house at that price they would have enough money to weather a economic slow down, but it doesn't so to be the case.

He won't admit it but I think a huge chunk is spent on his wife who is ultra high maintenance. He bought his house in early 2008 so there's no way he can sell it.

Count don't make fun of me but I went look at a house in RR earlier this week
If I buy does it mean we can't hang out?

This is the problem with a lot of families. The wife or kids or, I suppose occasionally, the husband, gets so used to a certain lifestyle and then want more. It is already happening to me. I am currently busy stamping those little embers out.

Some people don't know how to not spend money. It's a sickness.

There is a lot of what you're referring to out there. It is just more commonly in in places like University Park or Lake Highlands or Frisco than somewhere like Highland Park.
As far as Dallas goes, this is the right answer. It's not so much the wealthiest part of town that you'd find this as in what you'd call the "second tier".
I know people in both Highland Park and Preston Hollow and I can guarantee you they aren't even CLOSE to hurting. Pretty sure the same is true for a town like Westlake. Places like that you don't bullshite your way into.

I'd be willing to bet that you will never find the answer to your question.
