Was at my last job for 14 years…got promoted every other year so it never got stale. Only left because the new CEO was shady and asked his staff to also bend the rules.
Been at my current job for 8.5 yrs. Great work/life balance (22 days PTO plus holidays plus being closed the last couple of weeks of the year) flex schedule and salary. At this point, I’m only leaving if we move back to the northeast.

People who have worked for a company 10+ Years
some people love what they do and enjoy going to work each day.
some are self employed, so if you can live off of what you make with your own efforts than why would you want to work for an ungreatful company that gives zero fricks about you.
now if its leaches living in moms basement than never hire them, because they arent responsible adults yet, no matter how old they are

I have this malady as well.
My job is constantly changing and I have to learn new skills every few years. I guess that helps as well. A lot of it does get monotonous though. I've been out of college for 23 years and 21 of that is with 2 companies, 10 at one and 11 at the current one
I'd have a hard time going back to like 10-15 days of PTO though

One of my first jobs, worked 11 years. I have no idea how the hell I did it.

Sometimes job security is more important than a 12% pay bump when you are still raising kids. I've been at my current job for 11 years. They also pay me about the max I'll make in this market and I have a lot of PTO and good benefits.
This is the answer for most of us. I’ve been at my job for 19 years. Good benefits and lots of PTO as well as some freedom or as much as you can get in the O&G industry
We have management changes from time to time and the current regime sucks but you just ride it out lol

I'm comfortable. I'm treated well. As long as I'm meeting my deadlines I come and go as I please. I'm great with time management so it's rare that I'm rushed. If I leave the company I'm at it'll be for something out of state.

Because I like the people and the culture, because I've worked at enough places to know that this is the best it gets, because I've laid the hard groundwork of establishing my professional reputation and network, and because I have only 6 more years until I can retire.

I’ve been with my company for 30 years. Started out, fresh off active duty, as a warehouse worker making $5.50 per hour. Now I’m a product manager over a market segment with $20 million in annual revenue.
First and foremost I showed up and worked with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
I work for one of the world’s largest companies that is the type of company where you can advance, have excellent benefits, and earn a damn good salary.

Pretty much this. Been at my company for 11 years. My boss is a really good person who takes care of his people. That makes it much easier and enjoyable as well.

I don't recall how old OP is but it's probably fairly beneficial now to bounce around early in your career for pay bumps. I think once you are about where I am in my career you aren't going to get paid much more switching jobs. I'll take my 6.5 weeks off instead at this point

It's a PITA to start over and learn a new dynamic. Once you are established, you can leave early sometimes to see kids or grandkids sports, take longer lunches to go pound the wife every so often, plus the actual paid vacation. I get four weeks vacation per year. I'm not leaving and starting over at 1 week a year the first 2 years, 2 weeks per year the next 6, etc..

As an employer I’d strongly consider not hiring someone these days that had more than 2 jobs in a row of under 2 years unless I had limited other options. It would definitely be a red flag. Many jobs/ employers couldn’t do this to be fair.
But I’m looking for stability in most positions and I can offer that.
I would say that if you have never felt comfortable for that long you’ve had a lot of managers and employees that did a poor job of using your ability and creating benchmarks for you.

I am where I am because I’m treated well, compensated above industry average for my level, regular raises, lots of PTO, best benefits package I’ve ever had, a little room for advancement, and I feel respected and valued. As cliche as it sounds, it feels comfortable, like family.
Nutshell: I am compensated well for my loyalty, and don’t dislike the work or the people.

I do it because I own the company.

Pay increases, promotions, great benefits, ownership options, credibility and trust in the company, higher job security, more control, more say in company strategy.
I started at the bottom of a company of less than 50 employees and have worked my way into a leadership role in the company that has over 500 employees now. That was always an appealing opportunity to me and I look at the company as something I helped and continue to help build.

Flexibility to get the kids all the places they need to be. If I need to take Brayden to travel ball, we work it out.

Job security. I know the people I work with. I can do the job in my sleep so it’s low stress.

I hopped around a ton early in my career and finally found a good company that treats its people good.

Been at my employer for 21 years. It’s helped that I’ve moved from Phoenix to Charlotte and then to Baton Rouge. I’ve also done 4 different jobs over 21 years so that helps.
9 years ago I was looking to leave due to being stuck in a supervisor position and not happy with my pay. I took a chance getting into outside sales and tripled my salary the first year then quadrupled my salary after that. I work out in my territory/home most days and only have to be in the office 1.5 hrs 2 days per week.
One of the other benefits is that I have 5 weeks of vacation and nobody cares where I’m at as long as I’m selling.
