I like to pass them on the right, get back in the left lane and then just take my foot off the gas and gradually slow down to the point that they have to get in the right lane, then I speed back up to my desired speed.

I try to educate people with that little trick, not sure how much of it sinks in though.

I don't know if that will really educate someone.. but it at least makes you feel good

I like when someone is going slow in the left lane and myself + several other cars go around them in the right lane and get directly in front of them back in the left lane. I feel like it demonstrates exactly the problem.

I'm always cognizant of what's behind me. I'll speed up to GTF out people's way if I'm in the left lane and they close in on me, unless they are dickbags. I had some douche (no doubt coming back from Scraping The Bottom of The Barrel) yesterday get behind me, which I was already in line in the left lane. He was half way between both lanes, just riding the center line, on my bumper. Then when I finally get over (the speed limit went down to 60 for construction, and I know everyone goes faster than I do through those) he almost sideswiped us because he was over the line. I always hope I see people like that wreck, but they never do.

This used to make me so crazy I made a sign that said Left Lane for Passing and would get on the side of them in the right lane and honk till they looked and hold it up in my window. My friends swore I would get shot one day.

People create this scenario in their head that someone is disrespecting them with their vehicle. It's how road rage gets going. You have the anonymity, power and speed of a car along with the ego of the driver involved. He took the fact that you wanted to pass and the fact that you flashed your lights at him as a personal assault on his self esteem. Humans are a slave to their ego for the most part.

No. A rate of 80-85 is the top end I will drive. Typically when traffic is going the normal 70-85mph on the interstate. If the rate is lower, I drive lower to match traffic flow. The jackass doing 30-40 mph over is the outlier on the road and is a danger to everyone. Yes....I love getting them pulled over. I would love to ruin your day if it were you. But I am sure you don't fall into that category of a-hole driver. It is akin to giving a group of youth players a bat and telling them to spread out and take some warm up swings. Everybody is spread out safely and no harm to the others. But then you have the one low IQ reckless idiot who starts swinging wildly and inches away from crushing bones of other kids. He knows no better because he is stupid and reckless without any foresight. He is made to go way down the baseline, away from others so as to eliminate the threat or to just go cool off in the dugout. In the driving case, I am the coach looking after the sane drivers well being. The maniac speeder is the moderately retarded reckless player wildly swinging a bat and completely unaware of the danger he is posing to his fellow players. Far down the baseline is the shoulder of the road where he/she has a discussion with the assistant coach about safety and awareness. The dugout punishment is his/her arse going to think things over in jail.

Your welcome for my service.

If the speed limit is 85 what do you drive?

Just curious. I have a hard time speeding when the limit is 80 or over, it feels weird.

Anyway, I made it today with only flashing my lights once (to tell a car across from me at a four way stop to go, because he was first). I still disagree with anyone who says flashing to pass is wrong.

One time on the interstate I was in a long line of cars in the left lane passing the slower cars in the right lane. I was about the 5th car to the front of the line in the left lane. This truck comes racing up and squeezes into a small opening behind me.. in front of the car behind me. He starts flashing his brights like it's going to instantaneously make all 5 cars in front of him move over into the line of slower cars to the right.

I was like

yeah, for those guys a brake check is deserved IMO.

I do hate people that flash when they can clearly see there are multiple cars in front of them.

I did see a lot of people bring up the Texas thing were they pull onto the shoulder.
Not all Texas drivers do that. Rural Texas drivers are some of the most courteous friendliest drivers you will meet south of Canada. They wave, they are never in the way, they pull to the side, they indicate with their arms when you can pass, and when you shouldn't, etc...
City Texas drivers suck.

It is factually a wrong use of the high beams, and creates a dangerous driving scenario for the person that gets blinded by those lights. You are wrong in saying it is a "rule of the road."

That being said, I understand what it means, and usually try to get over if it happens. People who do it are typically more aggressive drivers, and ones that I would rather not be around. I've used the technique at times, and in that instance, I was being aggressive and technically incorrect.

I also love the hypocrisy of people quoting "the rules" to other drivers, when they are usually breaking the most obvious rule of the road, which is the speed limit. I also assume those people think "slower drivers keep right" means they are being given an implicit allowance to speed, which is incorrect. You expect people to follow every rule, because it provides the most convenience for you to break them.

It's sort of like a guy stabbing people in a movie theater getting mad at the guy who shoots him because he's in a gun-free zone.

I have never seen an 85mph limit. I have seen 80 though. With an 80mph limit I would never go faster than 85. My max is always a max of 10mph over. But I would not cruise at 90 if it were an 85 limit so I would possibly do 85 in that situation.

I'm sure it has been pointed out in the last 10 pages but in your description in page 2, shouldn't you have just been cruising your 80 in the right lane anyway?

Not that the guy in the left wasn't wrong too

I have no problem flashing my lights to someone who is taking up space in the left lane. I'm obviously going to give them a chance to either speed up or move without riding their arse. But if they continue to drive like miss Daisy I will flash them. IDGAF if they take it personnel, not my problem.

Some might call it aggressive driving. I call it expertly maneuvering around passive shitheads

If you've ever received a call from a hospital telling you you need to get there right away regarding a loved one, you understand why you need to get out of the way for people blinking their lights/emergency flashers on or emergency personnel.

I hope none of you get that call but if you do, I hope people don't cut you off, brake check you or cause another accident because they THINK you are some random a-hole driver.

Because he and everyone else that does not move over to the right hand lane are assholes. Slower traffic is suppose to move to the right hand lane.-It's the law !!

No, I don't. "Overdriving" is based on a lot of things, and I try to never do it. I am much more cautious in traffic... city especially.

But I have no problem going plenty fast with zero traffic on an open highway
