I hated living in Houston but man did I love the I10 corridor during non traffic hours. It's pretty much understood that if you aren't flying then stay far away from the left lane or get run over. Texans can be pretty self entitled, but atleast they understand how to use a blinker. I lose my mind at least once a day driving down Claiborne or Carollton.

If you can't get along with 99% of open road truck drivers (i'll exclude city truck drivers), then you are doing something very wrong.

This is the truth. If it's a company truck and not an owner-op, then they almost always have a customized governer set for the truck they are driving. With the technology these days, you can see how many seconds an individual truck spends in each RPM range and how it effects their MPG. Most companies only give drivers a few warnings but the first action is always restricting the speed on the truck. The truck drivers know their speed and how long it will take to pass another vehicle, even if it wastes 15 seconds of your precious driving time by being in the left lane. The major goal is it conserve fuel while utilizing cruise control and minimizing unnecessary shifting. I was the fuel lead for the southeast when managing owner operators in a previous job. Yes, some drivers are assholes and aggressive but the majority are some of the safest people on the road.

Open highway....I agree. It is your decision and you are not endangering anyone but perhaps yourself. MFers who do it in any kind of traffic can eat a dick while I watch them get a ticket or better yet, go to jail.

Pretty common on the Autobahn, from what I gather, and not considered a dick move at all.

I haven't read all 15 pages so I don't know if this has been said yet but flashing your lights is illegal on the autobahn, now they put on their right hand turn signal to indicate you need to move to the right out of their way.

That guy didn't understand driving. And all of the idiots who downvoted this are in the same boat.

I hate people who DRIVE in the left lane. The left lane is for passing. Obviously for the sake of keeping as much separated traffic on the road as possible, we ignore this. Fair enough. But if you're going to do it, AT LEAST have the decency to drive 10+ over the speed limit. Passing to the right is a big nono so you're just making the road way more dangerous by driving slow in the left. Move the hell over (esp if a car driving faster is behind you).

OP I applaud you.

I wish more people knew this. I'll let a truck over if I see he needs to get over to keep speed. But there's always the one jackass who can't crack the code on why the lane is slow, and pulls some dangerous maneuver just for me to catch up to him 3 minutes later.

Was he/she from Texas? Texas people are notorious for not maintaining speed. I understand the interstate system in the major Texas cities doesn't allow for cruise, but you're not in that city. Use fricking cruise. It's wonderful. Want to talk on the phone? Need to text? Need to check out mentally? Use cruise. That way you don't screw the rest of the drivers.

Had to flash a record 3 times on Sunday driving from MS coast to Houston. 2 of the 3 were back to back with people literally riding in the left side by side with a tractor trailer. If it takes you more than 20 seconds to pass a semi, you're fricking doing it wrong. Also witnessed some of the worst left-lane stacking I've ever seen. 30-40 cars stacked up in the left lane almost indefinitely, all tailgating, riding less than 1/2 second from the next's bumper, going no where, with the right lane wide open of course. Talk about dangerous. All caused by left-lane campers of course.

If you think it is worth the effort to flash your lights instead of drift over with a miniscule amount of effort to pass, when presumably absolutely no one else is on the road but you two

Its the principle of the matter. Why is that guy in the left lane if no one else is on the road? That is indefensible.

I agree with OP. This is the norm in Florida, get the frick over....

You can get a ticket for going 10MPH slower than the speed limit in FL. I know that's not the case here, but most just know to get over and not drive in the passing lane.

This. I also wish they'd have an cop go around giving tickets to people who don't go when the stoplight turns green. And then they just make the light while everyone behind them gets fricked.

Because I assume he saw a car that was going slower than him and wanted to pass it the proper way?

OP mentioned earlier in the thread that he was in the left lane having just passed several other cars and this guy was camped out in the left lane.

honestly.. YOU started the entire situation...

you stated no one was in the right lane, which meant YOU were cruising in the left lane without passing.

If you were following the rules you should have been in the right lane to begin with and would have passed right by him with no issues at all.

I feel like the left lane should be anybody going the speed LIMIT and the right lane is for getting off the interstate/highway or driving slower. If you feel the need to break the law and go faster, pass me in the left lane however you feel necessary. I won't move over because you feel like breaking the law. Also, if you get too close, I'll match the speed of the person beside me. Don't be an a-hole.

eta. If everyone in the right lane is going the speed limit then I'll move over to the right.
