I get that there have always been people who are child free, either by circumstance or choice, but the sheer number of young people choosing not to have kids now is alarming.

There are sadly a fair amount who don’t. My Dad is a good example. He simply became bitter, resentful, and horribly abusive.

Which is really sad of course (but hey pretty cool you exist as a result).

I guess my greater point is I think the nudge should be in the direction of having children, not the other way.

Yeah. I'm very pronatalist so I'm a bad person to have a neutral discussion here. But setting that aside the best I can, I do think the "starting point" or default moving toward "no kids" instead of "yes of course kids, it's not a question" is at best interesting/concerning, and at worst horrifying.

I think even people less inclined to my views can agree it may have down the line consequences that are hard to predict, and it's hard to see that many of them would be objectively good.

There's no right or wrong answer - depends
Just stop judging based on it

My wife wasn't able to and it took a very long time to find out.
She had to have a partial hysterectomy (in hopes of still bearing) and later had to have a full.
Her family treats us like we're different
same boat. It does suck when every single one of our siblings have young children when you wanted a family of your own. We aren’t the same spirited people we used to be looking forward to holiday get togethers anymore. It’s been tough

Look, I get the sentiment but I think this is a pretty simplistic view of a literally existentialist issue.

I think it's completely reasonable for people to have questions about, discuss, debate, etc. trends regarding the most human of all human things.

Good looking arm pieces can soak a man for a college degree, a master and phd, money to start a business, then thrown him out when he is old and take his money. Children is the least you can get out of decades of being used up.

Based on the posts of yours that I have seen, I understand why you might think that would be inevitable.

I got a vasectomy when I was 30 because I knew I would never want children. I have some nieces and nephews and thats nice, I love seeing them and buying them shite and playing. But I am 100% uninterested in any of the shite my friends have to do for their kids: sports practices, school functions, sleepovers. Never in a million years would I want to do that stuff. I dont have the patience for it and I am too selfish to put up with children and I have known that fact for a long time.

Kind of a narrow minded view. I know a fee married couples who are together because they wanted to live their lives together...they travel, share success etc.

I have a son w my wife and thats been incredible for us obviously but really no wrong way to do marriage

If we still can’t have kids by our mid to late 30s we would absolutely consider it.

Our ancestors fought in tribal wars, world wars, civil wars, lived in caves, fought off disease and famine, etc. to pass on their genes, so that people today can selfishly say that it’s just too inconvenient to have children.

There’s never been an easier time to be alive, hell, even our poor people in this country are fat with big screens and iPhones.

A recent patient had 16 children with 15 different women. Sounds like he’s great at procreation, but probably not at being a spouse. And no divorce too, right?

I bet he’s your hero.
