There are 5 rules of thumb that I can think of. Which makes for a better society?
How can you be so stupid?
This isn’t a 3556 vs 5 debate.
That’s five ADDITIONAL ones to the 3556 laws that you say are too much. They also contradict the actual laws. And apparently anyone can create a rule of thumb. Can we get a list of these or a reference on where to find them? Is a New Orleans rule of thumb different from a BR rule of thumb?
So yea, additional and conflicting “rules” def make things safer lol

Don’t swim 30 minutes after eating.
Liquor before beer…
Hazards in heavy rain.
Stay out of bad neighborhoods after dark.
Can’t get pregnant on your period.

If the dumbass houstonian sheriff's department did not encourage this, then maybe fellow I10 drivers would not follow suit

People who drive in the rain with their hazard flashers on should be flayed.
If they are that concerned, I would rather them run their hazard lights than not. With that said, if weather is bad enough for them to run their hazards they should pull over to the shoulder or under an overpass.

You do realize your flashers don't help me one bit. It's easier to see solid taillights than taillights that are going off and on.

In a heavy downpour you can’t always see the vehicle in front of you, so hazards help with that.
Also, taillights are not hazards, so it should not be confusing. Red Break lights indicate stopping while Yellow hazards indicate slower driving and caution, or low visibility.

If you feel it is that dangerous you should pull over and wait.

I’ve driven on I-10 to/from New Orleans countless times in a heavy downpour.
I’m not worried about it, and certainly not going to pull over for an hour.
It’s not dangerous if you can see the other cars.

For frick sake people.
They are BRAKE lights. Not BREAK.
Unless you BREAK your BRAKE lights in which case they are BROKEN.

One of these is not like the others

So what the frick is your point? You want people riding around with signals activated which do not accurately reflect the situation?
If you can't see tail lights before you're too close you are going way too fast for the conditions.

The OT, for those keeping score:
"Hell yeah I'll be 6 feet behind you on the interstate going 90mph if you're not as fast as me, your problem baw, not mine. Left lane drivers are dangerous and they need to feel the heat from my Salt Life F250 to learn their lesson"
"I've never actually seen an incident arise from it, but it's dangerous and irresponsible for soccer moms to put on their hazards during heavy rain. My heavens, I just can't believe the recklessness."
So you just link two different scenarios as though it’s the same person and think it's some OT gotcha? The most likely case is that these views would not be held by the same person as they are opposite extremes.

Are you not aware that on a lot of vehicles, the rear brake lights, turn signals, & hazards are all the same light?
My vehicle is 1 of those
ETA: and hazards flashing has priority over use of turn signal or showing braking

Saw dozens of cars on the interstate today with hazards flashing. Some were going 60 (the speed limit) and they thought their vehicles traveling the speed limit were a hazard to other drivers.

If your car doesn’t have a separate hazard light… then by all means, don’t use the hazards and do what you think makes the most sense.

Illegal and dangerous as it indicates a stopped or slow moving vehicle. The proper reaction to hazard lights in low visibility is to slow down significantly and change lanes asap.

Good rule of thumb there

Not sure this is completely factual. Relative point in the menstrual cycle matters here.
