Whenever you are ready to start making sense, go for it.
Otherwise, quit bitching about Susan.

It's very simple.
Your coworkers shouldn't be affected by your kids, that includes picking up your slack or altering their time off.
Your reasons for time off don't get to Trump anyone else's
If it doesn't, great, carry on. I have no idea why you and others act like I'm saying something controversial, other than it's me and your brain short circuits when you see my name.

So are you Susan's boss or not?

I feel if your kid is in travel ball and you routinely take off for that crap, it warrants dismissal.
Working 2-3 days a week the entire summer is absolute nonsense and I am shocked sone employers put up with it.
Have a similar coworker who always seems to be sick around the time travel ball starts

Susan thinks of him more as a buddy, it seems

Family is more important than work. And I say this as someone who loves my work and goes the extra mile.

To be fair... you have a pretty distinguished history.
This is just adding to it.

I haven't said anything that's in the least bit controversial, yet you are melting. Bizarre

Yes, if something is happening, it is happening. If it is not, it is not.
Again, it's like the words don't mean the same thing to you. It's very, very weird

Once we hit rock bottom and cut off all welfare, some of you ain't gonna make it.

You seem to be the one melting.
Here's where you went wrong:

The reality is that it's not simple. You'd like to think it is, but it's not. Otherwise "Susan" would be fired and someone else would be in that role next week.

To be fair, the types of jobs being discussed in this thread will be gone anyway once things really get rough.

You're telling me that you don't have kids w/o actually telling me that you don't have kids.
Have another downvote douchebag.

Some people like to work where people do matter. Maybe slack is given to those who need it, and others might like the additional hours/pay and/or recognition/raise/promotion/whatever, as well as knowing that they will get the same slack when/if they need it.
And then there are places like it seems you and OP work where some people matter and others don't. You should probably resign immediately.

Very negative way to take what I said
