I'm sure it has been said, but it's an acquired taste like ANY alcohol that isn't a sugary mixed drink.

Just because you spent 100 bucks doesn't mean it's one you'd like You have to figure OUT what you like to know that.

It’s okay to not like it.

Find what you like and be happy. Don’t worry about what you’re missing. Too many people overthink things.

Purchased a highly recommended bottle of whiskey. Nearly $100. Tasted like straight rubbing alcohol. Refuse to believe people can enjoy sipping this shite unless its mixed in coke or sprite.

Man, I don't know. I drink definitely more than average and I can't even handle the smell of whiskey.

I drink bourbon regularly, usually
Wellwr.

Ice only.

If people are gonna use Coke or Sprite as a mixer, just drink Seagrams 7 or whatever.

Alcohol is a sugar chemically. It’s very concentrated and tastes bitter by itself. When diluted with water/ice it lowers the sugar concentration to a level where it regains a sweet taste.
Sipping Woodford Reserve Double Oak with water, over ice, is nearly a confection. It is delicious and can alter your mood in a most pleasant way.

Bourbon, and how you drink it is as subjective as everything else in life. If everyone's tastes were the same, you wouldn't have a thousand different cheeses, or cigars, or wines, or breads, or just about anything else you can name.

Most of the time, I drink my bourbon on ice with 7-Up. But on occasion, I like to sip it neat, especially if I have a new bourbon, or one that is supposed to be really good.

Lots of people don't really sip bourbon very well. People tend to fear the burn or bite, and gulp it down quickly. You have to savor it for a little bit, to get past the bite of it, and pick up the various flavor profiles.

I'm just another middle class sucker, so I can't afford the high end bourbons, but I'm pretty confident that I couldn't enjoy the high end versions any more than several of my $40-$50 dollar bottles.

I hate whiskey/whisky.
If you have to drink something straight, do Casamigas or a decent mescal.
