I used to be like that when I was young. I grew up, my taste palette changed (matured), and I grew to love bourbon/whiskey. Actually, bought me a bottle of Smokewagon uncut unfiltered today.

I also figured out that you don't just drink it and let it all hit your tongue at once. There's a process to drinking bourbon. I sip it, and while doing so just a bit hits the front of my tongue and the rest goes underneath. Then, you kind of swallow the rest while it primarily hits the back of the tongue. It's hard to explain.

tl;dr: I love bourbon/whiskey neat.

It's criminal to drink something like an 18 year old MacAllen anyway other than neat. You can drink some water later.

Anything over OGD114 gets ice or water for me. Anything under bonded rarely does. Everything in-between depends on my mood.

Drinking EC94 now and loving every pure, lukewarm sip.

I enjoyed stronger tastes as I grew older. I like a little bite and burn. I think over time our palate gets duller and it takes more flavor to make an impression.

It's an acquired taste. During college I mixed whiskey with coke. Then I went through a weird phase mixing Jim beam with Dr pepper. Then I only drank beer for many years. When I tried whiskey and coke again it was too sweet for me. Then for a while I sipped whiskey on ice and now I genuinely only enjoy it neat. I'm not lying to myself or trying to be cool or trendy. That's how I like it.

Indeed. OGD and EC are utility bottles. They do it all for me.

If you need to add more than a couple drops of water (literally) to an 86 proof whiskey then you shouldn’t be drinking whiskey

The average adult has approx 10,000 taste buds that are replaced every 2 weeks. As we get older and try new things, our taste buds mature away from the childhood basic sweet a bitter sensations and grow to enjoy many different flavors. The strong sensations of sweet and bitter do dull some. Elderly people may have fewer taste buds but it’s in the elderly not just older.

ETA Acquired taste is a real thing.

Ice makes every whiskey better. You can pretend to be elitist and better than us all you want but deep down you know it’s true.

This is 100% not true. Ask anyone who drinks or makes whiskey for a living. Ice and coldness actually mutes many of the flavor notes of any liquor. So if you don’t really like whiskey, then sure ice makes it “easier” to drink any whiskey.

Ha I’m still the toughest 1%er you’ll likely ever meet. I may prefer red wine, but I’ve been mudchecking poser asses since you’ve been in day school. Just ask Fusaichi Pegasus (we call him Juicy Rim) and Darth (StickyShifter).
