I agree with getting junk food off the approved list for SNAP, but I also don't have a problem with this credit for fruits and veggies. There are lots of things in between vegetables and Twinkies that can be bought on SNAP, what's the issue with incentivizing the stuff on the healthier end of that spectrum? I'd rather them be tempted to buy some fruits and veggies to make their dollar go further versus, say, another loaf of Wonderbread

I mean, this looks like it’s just a kick back for Walmart with the exclusivity to it.
the entire SNAP program is set up to fatten Walmarts pockets

Stop gap - but a reasonable one considering the benefits.

I'm afraid federal assistance is a part of who we are. We argue over it's duration, to whom, for what reasons... but that's no reason to not try and help them make better decisions with what they're being gifted. Up to me deduct from the same $25.00 for buying Twinkies and such. We also pick the tab for their health.

You are making my point for me.

Waste is waste, regardless of debt.

A family with $100k in credit card debt still should not go to Disney.

Most of the people using snap won’t understand how a 25$ cap works

I’d love to just mail a box of non-perishable items to these poor folk every week but that would bankrupt some grocery stores. So I guess we need to sell the boxes to the grocery store and let them make a few bucks.

Me either. Incentivizing good healthy choices is something I fully support because in the long run, it's cheaper and better for everyone. Insurance premium discounts, grocery credits, HSA cash back offers, etc.

I said exactly that in my post you responded to, so it’s not news to me

How about Medicaid putting up to $100 on a state issued Visa for simple tests like a lab draw, diabetic cornea exam, regular semi annual PCP visit, and women can get an extra $25 for pregnancy checkups?

Not many know about that unless they get the card in the mail, automatic enrollment.

I would prefer a complete overhaul of the system but it doesn’t seem like this could be overly abused with a 25.00 limit

You know them thugs be finding a way.

If we is being honest, all these free handout food programs should only be allowed to buy fruits, produce, meats and certain dairys like the milks, cheeses and yogurts type of stuff. No junk food or processed foods from a box or a bag. Same thing with EBT. But we all know that isn't be gonna happen. Govt wants our poors to be obese fatties and the corps ain't gonna be liking that like Nestle and the likes who is be making bank off these obesities monstrosities.

The roadside vegetable/fruit-stand market is about to be overrun with resale competition!

I fear there will be a run on Romaine lettuce like toilet paper during Covid. 2 people can buy a store out and corner the market! -/s/-

Meh. Bad bandaid on a much larger problem. Just spare down what can be bought to fresh grains, rice, beans, vegetables, fruit, meat/poultry (mid tier or lower/no seafood), kitchen staples.

Also need to ban people from SNAP for life for selling their benefits for cash.
