Doctors. I say this with respect for the profession, but there are plenty of them who absolutely cannot distinguish their opinion from fact.
Some of them have come to believe that because they're knowledgeable about medicine, they're the subject matter expert on politics, economics, sports, or whatever else is being discussed, and they expect to be deferred to. Then there are the ones who think they know how to do your job better than you do...

I get what you're saying about those in the military. They may be the most proud of their profession (or former profession), but they are also one of the few where no one faults them for that. They deserve to feel proud for their service, and most would agree with that.
As far as those that have undue hubris, I think it has to be police officers. I respect that they are in a dangerous profession compared to most people, but they tend to talk about being in "the line of fire" like they are active military. Calm it down.
Teachers are a close second.

Honest question,: How many people who serve in the military actually get in the "line of fire"? 10%? 20%? 50%? >50%?

Honest answer: I don't know. But my point remains the same.

Doctors think they're God, but God doesn't think He's a doctor.

Well I'm not sure about percentages but due to the war on terrorism being nonlinear it's more than infantrymen who are out on patrols who are in the line of fire.
I've been outside the wire and in and have been shot at in both situations.

As a fireman, I'll say up in the northeast that is true. Overall here in the south most are more laid back about it.

These people are usually known as 'consultants'.

The reason I ask is, how do I know if the guy like in this video who was ever in a dangerous situation in combat? What if the guy was in the military, but was a cook or a tech guy or a mechanic who never ventured outside of base? While I agree that people who put their lives in danger deserve credit, not everyone who has served in the military fit that bill, right? Just because someone is in uniform, you can't assume somehow they are better than civilians and deserve a thanks for their 'service'?
My question is this: Is there a way to easily tell or ask a question of somebody that served to find out if they actually risked their life for this country?

Well ask them what their mos or job is. What battalion they were attached to. If they deployed, where was it.
When I was finish doung my convoys and on my downtime in Afghanistan I spent an incredible amount of time in or around bunkers because one of the bases where I was at received the most mortar round and indirect fire in the country.
