well, I am an engineer and have no idea what "hubris" means...so apparently, engineers don't have much of it...

Doctors, then Attorneys. You can't meet one without knowing what they do for a living.

That's not always indicative. Some truck drivers have been in the shite more than some infantrymen.

I understand that.

I'd have to write an essay in order to give him an answer he would want. I just don't have the energy for that. Sorry mate

Honestly unless you have access to see someone's dd214 you won't get an accurate picture. Even with that info that's not a guarantee.

I'd have to write something long and complex bc I'm not sure how to write it correctly the first time. But that's just me. Someone else may have an easier time writing you an answer to your question.

Cobblers. Every time I go in to one of their shops they give me attitude. "Cobbling is a lost art" "You couldn't cobble your way out of a paper bag"

I wouldn't really say the military is a job. It's basically welfare for those who can't get real jobs.

Even that is a very limited picture. You can see where he's been and what he trained on. CIB's,Purple Hearts, and things like that, even, don't tell a full story.

As far as the other comments, I don't need some added respect for military service. Not at all. I was always intensely embarrassed when someone gave me the "thank you for your service" out in public. However, I don't believe it deserves outright disrespect either, like saying it's welfare for dead-end kids.

Right, tell that to my uncle serving in the USAF, in charge of designing gps systems for satellites. Total bum

Thoroughly shocked that Plant Operator hasn't been mentioned yet. A lot of OT'ers have a hard on for operators.

Agreed.

I don't exactly feel embarrassment but I do feel uncomfortable if someone thanks me for serving. So I can relate somewhat to how you feel
