I am friends with and work with several Colombians. One of my co-workers who I spend time with outside of work is married to a Colombian.
I've never heard any of them mention this.

Got no beef with Colombia, but they have requested $344 million in foreign assistance for 2020. Along with that comes the right for us to refer to ourselves as big A America, and them whatever the hell we want.

I knew a bunch of Colombians at LSU when I was there. they were happy to not be in Colombia. They liked to party.

I can confirm that Canadians don't say "oh you're from America?". They say we're from "the states" for similar reason that were both North Americans.
