You would be amazed just how much some dentists make.

They sold local dental practices for more than the original asking price of the estate. Just a rumor.

From the wall street journal:

quote:

According to the magazine, a 3,000 to 5,000 square foot mansion — categorized as “small” — in a major city will cost a little over $100,000 a year to staff, if the owner has children. That pays for two nannies ($750 a week each), a weekend nanny ($400 per weekend) and a housekeeper/cook at $750 per week.
That is 10k a month for a 3000 sq ft full time staff. The pennigtons house is 30,000 sq ft. So multiple 10k times 10 and you get .......

100k. To fully staff a 30,000 sq ft mansion you are going to be spending over 100k a month. Now, you dont have to fully staff, but they do

Now they dont need nannies but they have chefs

I don't think these numbers would apply in BR, La. I imagine that is for NY or higher cost of living areas where this would be more common.

The 12.5 acres of land has value. The building(s) may be a mess, but they can be altered to make them more desirable, or demolished so something better can be built. Somehow I doubt the buyers are tapped out and will be unable to invest additional money into the property if they feel the need.

I've got a friend who's wife is a dentist. Her dad was a dentist also, so I am sure he foot the bill for med school.

I would have guessed she made 250k per year...maybe I'm off a bit

I've explained to you peckerwoods 3 times now how they got the money. Dental practices were very valuable to national chain.
They have ALOT more money than your 911's and ruzils around BR.

They have a separate 2000+ sqft house on their grounds that house some of their full time staff

Even then, it's not going to run $100K per month. You're talking about $20K per month in labor and another $10K in taxes then let's say the utilities are really high at $5K...where's the other $65K?

BTW, my friend's wife comes from a very rich family and they have a huge ranch with two spare houses each with staff in them and they have a few more people that work there that don't live on the ranch. It doesn't even cost $100K per month to run and there's a lot more to it than maintaining just a house and the grounds. His wife does the books for the family so he knows and we have discussed it before.

Fair enough. But in new york they are managing 10,000 sq ft with no outdoor space. The pennigtons are 30,000 sq ft with acreage. Look, I have seen personal tax returns of rich people that have fully staffed houses over 100k. The links I am providing are also backing up my point. Not sure why I am getting such push back There are people that are in a different world than us guys

They got what it is worth due to it being in BR. BR cant support a house selling for 18 million. 6 million is pretty much the max I would imagine for the BR market

Very few markets not in either Texas or the east and west coasts can support an $18 million house.

the numbers you found are terribly inflated. plus they are counting two full time nannies, plus a weekend nanny. you think a 3,000 SF house in BR cost $100,000 to staff? thats fricking ridiculous.

plus there is an econonmy of scale here. not every single bedroom in that house will be slept in and need the bed made, vaccumed, clothes washed, showers cleaned everyday...

I don't think you can just extrapolate out like that and get a real number in this case.

One article and it was very inflated. It was also for higher cost of living areas.

Common sense tells you that it's not $100K per month for that place.
