Report says White people better at crossing the street

quote:

An average of 20 pedestrians were hit and killed by motorists each day in the United States last year, according to estimates compiled by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). That equals a total of 7,485 people for the year. For those keeping grim track of such statistics, last year represents the highest number of pedestrian fatalities recorded in the past four decades.
You'd have to travel back to 1982 to find a year with more pedestrian deaths than 2021

quote:

The report further found that "Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) were over-represented in pedestrian crashes considering their share of the population."

quote:

Pedestrian deaths in California dropped by 68, the largest reduction in fatalities of all states in 2021. New Mexico had the highest pedestrian fatality rate of all states, while Maine, Massachusetts and Idaho had the lowest.

Maybe they should get out of the road then

I wonder, are there possibly any other statistics where they are over represented considering their share of the population?

You mean the black guys weaving in and out of moving traffic on main streets are at greater risk of getting hit? Shocking.

How can the world’s fastest runners also be the world’s slowest walkers when crossing the street?

people that die here in ATL area are almost always just too damn lazy to walk 100 feet from the bus stop to the crossing. They just walk straight across, even with small children.

A couple years ago, I came up on an accident here where a lady walked around in front of the bus and didn't check traffic, and got smeared for 100 yards on the road.

They generally live in areas with no or very poor sidewalks and probably have to walk more out of necessity.

I'm not clicking the link to the article, so maybe you can post the quote after the fact about how it's the white man's fault. This is unjust and white men need to do their part to equalize the numbers better.

Not to mention the ones that walk in dark streets with dark clothing and come out of nowhere.

And streetlights...

On A strange side note. I once got a jaywalking ticket. On a closed street....
