The 2nd bulletin at 1:56 is the one you always hear in documentaries

This announcement gives the location of PH, but I imagine many did not

In the movie Pride of the Marines (1945) w/John Garfield, one notable scene has people around a radio learning about the Dec 7 attack, and asking, "Where's Pearl Harbor?". In most movies of the period, people react with "Oh my God not Pearl Harbor!!! That's our most important Pacific base!!!" In reality most Americans had never heard of it before.

Fascinating broadcast! I’m suprised how bad the recordings sounded back then!

Interesting note that officers didn’t wear uniforms at this time in peacetime because it would be too “militaristic”

This always reminds me of the opening credits to WKRP in Cincinnati

News flash….

There was a war in Europe in progress.

Military bases were always in uniform. The only issue off base, was Marines Corps officers were required to wear shirts with collars.

The entirety of the USMC is not allowed to be in uniform off base while not on duty. Unless you’re in your car going to your house. But in general, you are not allowed to be in public in your utility uniform as a member of the USMC.

Circling back to the OP, this reminds me of the Fox News airing on 9/11. About 15 minutes beforehand they’re bullshitting with Rob Thomas and his wife and then they cut in with the footage of the north tower.

I’ve got battle rewarded Marine Corps Officers in the family. They don’t wear Tee shirts. Required shirts with collars off base.

My SIL was in the White House during 9-11.
