I'm with everything you're saying. What I find astounding is no one (experienced contractors and architects) questioned WTF this 5.5" slab is trying to span 20+ feet. Maybe they did, but obviously it got built.

I agree, I think that is the question of the day.

Then, I'd hire an engineering firm to review the report of the engineering firm I hired to check the engineer's work.

Know how I know you’ve never had two opposing engineers on any project you ever done ever?

Tim McConnell is a mouth piece for the mayor, any mayor elected. Latoya, Mitch, doesn’t matter. He would sell his soul, and his NOFD brothers out to pad his own pocket. He would be the first invite to sonic if I could deliver one.

I thought I read the temp poles and braces were to remain in place until permanent interior walls were built. All interior walls were to be weight bearing. If that’s accurate, who’s decision was it to start pulling the temp braces before walls were built?

I don't think that has been confirmed yet. Temporary bracing for slab pours is common until the concrete reaches a certain strength. Several posters have claimed they have heard the design was dependent on interior framing for additional strength. I haven't seen that in the plans and we don't have the benefit of the current plans at their current revision state so we all are speculating at this point (including me).

It's abundantly clear the red iron and concrete deck alone weren't capable of supporting design loads. Who was supposed to provide the remaining support and by what means and when? I don't have those answers.

Someone I'm with just told me that WWL is reporting that the reason the demo was postponed from Friday to Saturday was the demolition contractor was awaiting a $5M payment from Kailas to proceed with the work.

Awesome! Hopefully the price goes up every hour. A little extortion is just what this story needs.

If they are waiting on money from Kailas, this probably happens on the 32nd of Nevember.

He paid
quote:

The developer of the ill-fated hotel project, a group led by Mohan Kailas, did not pay the $5 million demolition price until Saturday morning.

quote:

“It is important to note that while the state signed the contract, the entire cost, which had been paid in advance of the work, is being paid by the owner and the owner’s insurers,” Shauna Sanford, a spokeswoman for Gov. John Bel Edwards said.

quote:

Malcolm Ehrhardt, a spokesman for developer 1031 Canal Development LLC, also confirmed the money was paid Saturday morning, but also said the delays had nothing to do with the payment.

Interesting that the state signed the contract but somebody else was on the hook for payment.

If there were ever a time for a government authority to step in and pay as part of an emergency response it sure seems this was it.

So, if the developer didn't pay, nothing would happen?

This is a clusterfrick of developer/contractors making but the goonsquad in the public sector writing checks and waiting for others to cash them is classic New Orleans...

No telling. Maybe the state would pay if the holdup was the money.

Imagine the clusterfrick if this thing falls and hurts someone and the state has a signed contract, but said they weren't paying.
