the crane stuck 20 ft deep on rampart, will improve the drainage in that area though...

Did it penetrate the road surface?

Haven't seen any pics showing that so I assumed everyone was guessing.

Looks to me like the jib bent and didn't do anything but put a good dent.

the city councilman interviewed on the news said there was a pad built to protect the street and utilities below. i don't know if that's true or not. it's the first mention of it that i've heard. but would make sense given how they're talking about this as a partial "success".

HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Oct. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- During this difficult time of loss, our attention remains on those who have suffered and are suffering in New Orleans. For the sake of transparency, we want to clarify our role in the crane demolition. Hard Rock Hotel Logo (PRNewsfoto/Hard Rock Hotels & Casinos)

We were contacted Friday afternoon to provide urgently needed financial support for the safe removal of the two cranes. We immediately authorized the funds from an escrow account to allow the Kailas Companies to fulfill its obligation.

That is crazy. Hard Rock seeing this as a donation because their name is forever attached to it?

Figured they would be trying to distance as much as possible.

yea sounds like they prepared for some loose debris, not the whole damn crane. i'll be interested to see just how damaged rampart is.

Need to send Birdseed up in a bucket with a torch and he'll have it down in about 15 mins.

Can't tell for sure, but from watching the video, either the first 20-30 feet that hit crumpled just perfectly to keep 60-70 feet of the mast upright and balanced perfectly on end or the first 20-30 feet that hit Rampart penetrated the street and is keeping the mast standing like a lawn dart. One thing's clear from the video is that one of those two happened. It didn't hit and immediately stop.

I don’t think that was a donation. I’m sure they will be looking to get it back. How is anyone’s guess.

Yeah they didn't help, that point penetrated the street like a dart into butter. Its so stuck that you can see the counterweight fall shortly after and hit the part standing straight up, and all it does is wobble a little bit but still stay upright.

Pretty crazy that it fell perfectly vertical like that so that point would penetrate.

Does anybody else think there would be 3/4 of a crane on Canal if it weren't for that elevator shaft structure? How is this considered a "win??"
