Your kid probably does because I’m my kids biological father

So not only is your kid a mindless zombie, but you are exposing him to skin cancer too?

I'm calling CPS.

Don’t have kids, but I can’t see myself just throwing an iPad or iPhone in front of his/her face when I want him/her to settle down.

I knew that some super parent would bring this to the table. First, it's my grandchildren, as I clearly stated. Second, your statement is not even close to the case. Most of the stuff that they view is educational, anyway. I brought this as a commentary on how much of an ear worm this Pinkfong stuff is.

Have one and find out. I said the same thing.

Your 4 year old will probably work for his 4 year old one day.

i do, but only after she eats dinner and takes a bath every day, and i limit it to 20-25 mins.

sometimes when I'm on my phone she'll fiend for it, and sometimes I'll give in, but we like to limit the amount of screen time she gets.

It's lazy parenting.

I'm not talking about the selective sample of the ot who moderate their kids usage.

I'm talking about the vast majority of 3-13 year olds you see in public who are looking down at a phone regardless of what is going on around them.

It's "I just got home from work and have to get dinner started before I entertain my kids" parenting.

If that's the way you use it, that's your problem. I don't think anyone advocates for replacing parenting with a tablet.

That's twice that you've chosen to lecture to people in this thread. 50/50 that you don't even have children.

I do.

Look Gramps just because you are taking the easy road with your grandkids, don't expect that everyone does the same or that the (Google it) scientifically backed studies about overexposure to screen time in children being detrimental aren't valid.

You can definitely tell who has kids in this thread and who doesn’t. These kids are digital natives. That’s the world they are going to live in. If he would rather color on the ipad then color in a coloring book then what’s really the difference other then he is learning to use technology. Obviously, people shouldn’t give the iPad to their kids all day long and ignore them. But to completely ignore it as a resource for your kid just because we didn’t have it as a kid is short sited

No. Unless they're old school bugs bunny cartoons. The shite that made me the man I am today. None of this new snowflake bullshite where everyone is getting along. I want to see anvils being dropped on someone from a 100 foot cliff.

Doubt you'd sing the same tune if you were stuck in traffic with a 2 year old having a meltdown in the backseat over nothing

i'll gladly let iPad raise my child during car travel, at least until she's no longer rear-facing

My 4 year old has a tablet, she gets 30 minutes - 1hour of "free time" per day on it depending on her report from school (glorified day care). Usually that 30 minutes consists of you tube kids, which we monitor as closely as possible. The other time on her tablet has to consist of learning apps. I have an app on my phone that cuts you tube kids off after 30 minutes as well as monitors which other apps she has used and for how long.
ETA: The app I use to monitor her use is called Screen Time. It is installed on my phone and her tablet and it costs about $20/year but we have been very happy with it.
