Might want to consider giving The nightmare videos of children's YouTube a watch. In short, if you're going to let them do it at least turn off the auto play because there's some pretty messed up computer generated stuff out there.

True.

Not saying it's 100% safe and you don't need to keep an eye on it, but I imagine the YT Kids app is a bit safer for this.

Disclaimer: I haven't see that video you linked.

As a treat, usually on the weekend, my 3yo will watch caspar babypants and bluegrass on a tablet.

We don’t do it more often because when you take it away it’s a shitshow.

My kids just got into that Ryan's Channel thing, and I'm fairly certain they'd trade places with him if it meant never seeing me and their mother again

My grandson when not quite 4 years old overheard my son and his FIL discussing a dishwasher that would not drain. Evidently there are general repair videos on YouTube for kids. He found one and told them what they needed to do.

YouTube Kids is a creepy arse app. There are some straight up pedo sounding dudes on there playing with toys.

It also has to create ADD kids. It is just non-stop changing videos. There is no sitting there watching one thing.

Not to mention there is just tons of marketing on there directly aimed at your kids.

Ye, she does. She got it when she turned 4 and gets to spend about 30 minutes a day on it. Otherwise she is outside on her bike or swimming.

They can be fine if you limit them. She uses it for YouTube kids, books, learning games, and puzzles.

We took YouTube away. It was like crack, our oldest would freak out when it was time to turn off. Took away Roblox for the same reason. Don't think it is evil and there is some great stuff out there but having unlimited content was something she just couldn't handle.

Don’t have kids, but I can’t see myself just throwing an iPad or iPhone in front of his/her face when I want him/her to settle down.

I admit to doing it with my 2-year out when we are out in public. Try to set her up for success by making sure she is rested, fed, and in a good mood but toddlers are ticking time bombs and sometimes you have to get shite done. My 8-year old though? She has to deal with not having it because she is old enough to act appropriately without it. She whines other kids have them but whatever. She's also not getting a phone either even though that is starting with her friends.

I would not allow my child to watch Youtube unsupervised under the age of four. I may play specific videos for him, but even then, I'm just not sure being glued to a smartphone screen from birth is good for the child's overall development.

I feel like we need a TD support group, we're all going through the same thing.

It got so bad, my kids know if they make a single peep when I say time's up, the smallest thing, they lose it the next day. If it's more than a peep, 7 days. That may sound harsh, but it's where the constant whining/crying/complaining got us. At this point, they don't say a word because they know the deal.

My kids are 3 and 1.5 and don't have tablets and don't watch TV.

Everybody that knows them says they are the most well-adjusted kids they know.

Kids are 3 and 5 and have zero access to tablets.

I play an occasional video for them on youtube but I cannot fathom what some of these situations I am reading on here are about.

My kids are far far far from perfect. But I consider it a winning day if there is more play (especially outdoors) and less screen time (30 min or less a day ideal).

I do not buy the concept that they will be behind technology wise or learning wise with out screen time now. I think its the opposite actually.
