Ha...It's way up there.

Especially if you put in the time & equipment to be good.

That's actually similar to what I told my wife. That whole business is a racket IMO. Finally got the wife to see that this year and thank God this will be their last year of company. Just going to have them dedicate about three hours a weeks to practicing "one" style of their choice instead of 20 hours a week in company.

Heck, it affects MY time. I have to go to the studio every Sat. Morning until April to help assemble this huge freaking prop that's multiple-leveled that they will be hauling around to competitions starting in May. Bunch of the dad's are trying to get the assembly of this mammoth thing together in less than 5 minutes and broke down in less than 5 minutes because that's all the time allowed at competitions. Points get deducted for going over. Have to go back on Sunday evening and break it down and put it in storage. The company only practices on the prop for 4 hours on Saturday and 4 on Sunday. It has to be stored during the week to be out of the way for normal weekly studio classes.

And on top of that, I had to basically design the thing. Then managed the construction of it. This is a 4k prop, materials alone. Labor was done by dads.

Done with it man. Bring on golf for my boy. I'll enjoy that much more.

My boy is 8, and I hadn't even thought of golf. That sounds like some good bonding time right there

I chimed in on the girls/boys expense thread. I think what you're seeing here is accurate. It all depends on how seriously your kid takes the sport / activity and how far you let them go with it.

While I am impressed with the $30k/year Taekwondo kid - I'd trade that for my daughter's dance bill last year. Without even thinking about it.

I have never bought a horse. But at least you have an asset there. I got $10-$20k worth of used /thrown away pointe shoes.

Anyone of these things could be the most expensive if you let it.

Motocross is one of the most physically & mentally demanding sports there is. One's fitness is directly proportional to results.

Besides... it comes on Fox Sports 1, so yes.

Motocross was easily the demanding sport I ever participated in. It was brutal on the body. I raced for 5 years, and I was in okay shape at the time ( I could easily crank out 6-8 miles on my mountain bike at noon in the middle of the summer for training). But I couldn't last more than 2 laps at full speed on my motocross bike. In a typical 4 lap race ( and we're talking about a 2 minute lap time), I could do 2 laps at full speed, I'd be dying on the 3rd lap, and on the last lap I would be hoping to just hang onto the bike for dear life. This was in my late 30s. And if you raced every month, you'd expect to break a bone every other year or so. In 5 years I was lucky enough to get by with a broken hand, a punctured calf muscle, and some collateral back damage. At one event there were around 90 riders at the track, and 6 left with broken bones. It is the most demanding sport I can think of.

I've got one that goes to Gym school, has school there and trains. 3 hours of school and 5 hours of gymnastics. and two that play travel baseball. You don't even want to know my annual bill.

I thought we were talking about team sports, if not then Equestrian and Motocross take the cake and it's not even close. After that comes skiing and golf and then team sports from there

I've had a son play travel ice hockey for several years, and a daughter in equestrian for the same time frame. If they had played soccer, I would be OT rich, with a house on the beach and in the mountains. But, they grew up well adjusted, disciplined, and stayed out of trouble. Their mother usually went on the equestrian trips, and I went with my son to the hockey tournaments. Worth every damn penny I spent.

Motocross and it's not close. Bike, parts, equipment, gas for the bike and for your method of transportation which will not get good MPG, repair costs, entry fees. Not to mention if you want to be any good you need a track at home so that's a shitload to pay for and maintain. Plus medical costs.

Having participated extensively in both cycling and ski racing, they both should be right at the top of the list. Hockey requires an insane amount of equipment as well, and shite breaks a lot for obvious reasons. Im scratching my head over soccer.

I'm scratching my head over cycling. All you need is a bike and you can get one of those at a yard sale.
