Is your senior asking for a ring? A watch? Something out of the box?

My son was really set on a ring until a couple of nights ago when we discussed the almost certainty that he will wear the ring for 1-1.5 years, then it becomes a paper weight when he gets to college. Now he wants a new Apple Watch. It's more budget friendly that the ring he wanted, but I was really hoping he'd find a nicer watch he could wear on formal occasions. C'est la vie- we'll get him the Apple Watch.

ETA: High School, not college. Just in case that wasn't already clear.

My kids get a party and a trip. The ones who didn’t want a trip got $1500.

Clearly, our budgets are different Although we will help him buy a car when he's in a better financial position; i.e; not spending more than his paychecks. So that counts.

Helping with cars is great!

I keep them on my cell phone and car insurance for awhile too.

Something like this. Always a buy out option.

My dad bought me a .308 deer rifle and scope instead of a ring. I still use it 20 years later.

We got our daughter a ring, but it was redesigned from a ring that was her grandmother's then mine, so a family heirloom that she can pass down, not just the standard Josten's.

Do people get gifts for getting to 12th grade? How long has that been going on?

Had this discussion with my kids. The oldest settled for a shadowbox of his gown, diploma, and the program. My daughter just ordered her "senior" ring but it's just a nice gold ring of a butterfly or some shite that she will wear daily. Of course it will be engraved on the inside of the ring to signify its' purpose. I'll probably just get my other son a fleshlight.

My oldest graduates high school this year. She’s getting a college education and monthly stipend for food, clothes, phone, gas, car, insurance. I’m jealous you’re getting away with only buying an Apple Watch.

As lame as it sounds, get him a really nice set of luggage for traveling. It’ll be appreciated.

I told my son two years ago when he was a senior I was going to give him an itemized list of all expenses associated with his upbringing from birth to date.

I didn't, but I still might.

My sisters both got birthstone rings for their senior rings that I assume they still have.
