re: Parents of girl who died of measles in TX say it was God's will, and to avoid vaccination

Flying internationally always seemed to be vaccine intensive in the past. The Mennonites likely had an infected person enter their area, town, or schools, but when people are going out into a world where measles and other diseases are on the rise with 12,500 cases of measles reported world wide in January vaccines should be required by us if not required by foreign country they are visiting. The absolutely should be required by us before any refugees set foot in our country. No leeway due to large numbers from Middle East conflicts as has been given by Obama & Biden.
Diseases going up around the world last several years was not the time to wave in illegals and ship in refugees. Israel’s closing of borders likely saved us from having a ton of palestinian refugees being added to the mix by Biden. Judging by college campuses we already have way too many.

After returning home from a trip abroad last week, an infant in Houston was hospitalized with measles.
In Lamoille County, Vermont, this month, a child became sick with measles after returning from foreign travel.
The same thing happened to an adult in Oakland County, Michigan, whose vaccination status was unknown.

Two more cases of measles were reported in Maryland, bringing the total in the state to three, the Maryland Department of Health reported on Thursday.
Officials say two Prince George's County residents who recently traveled together internationally were confirmed to have measles. A Howard County resident was reported to have measles on March 9.
Maryland health officials said measles was detected in a Howard County resident on March 9 following a trip out of the country,

Measles is on the rise around the globe. There were more than 12,500 cases reported in January, according to the World Health Organization, and cases for February and March are still being counted.
…Last year, the number of cases in the European Region, which includes parts of central Asia, were the highest in 25 years, according to a report released last week by WHO and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
In 2023, 57 countries were affected by “large or disruptive” measles outbreaks, up from 36 in the year before, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These were mainly centered in Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. There were 10.3 million measles infections globally that year, a 20% increase from 2022, according to WHO.

That girl didn't die of measles, she died with Measles, she died of pneumonia, got the wrong treatment, then they took too long getting the right treatment started

Honestly is that a number to even be remotely concerned about? 12500 in one month for the entire world of 7 billion people! For context in the US, the 2024/25 Flu season has resulted in 33,000,000 cases.
ETA: I am not trying to down play Measles bc clearly it’s not something to just brush off but it’s also not the plague where it was killing high % of people even at it’s peak. That being said, the #s being shown don’t seem to indicate some big come back of the disease. At least not yet. The immunization program seems to be working just fine contrary to all the gloom and doom.

How is it God's will that their little girl died?
She died. If it wasn't God's will, she would not have died.
Mennonite apparently take the Calvinist approach and assume our free will choices have no impact on anything of consequence.

Why do you want it to be measles so bad?

Bad analogy. This is more equivalent to someone with Covid dying in a motorcycle accident, and the cause of death being listed as Covid.

So Covid caused the accident? What the frick happened? They sneezed and hit the dump truck or something?

No, as stated, she died from untreated pneumonia, not measles.

Ah.
So just a really big coincidence...

Respiratory illnesses are a common cause of viral pneumonia. Many people who get the flu, also get pneumonia. Seems like if you catch it pretty early on, it can be treated pretty easily.

No, as stated, she died from untreated pneumonia, not measles
Measles can cause pneumonia, which is the most common cause of death from the disease. Approximately 6% of measles cases result in pneumonia, particularly affecting young children and those with weakened immune systems.
