Defending someone arrested for two heinous murders and possibly a pedophile is certainly a choice.
There's alleged parents of his former students on social media talking about how he was fired for inappropriate behavior with female students.

Probably the girls, and there were multiple people who saw him out on the trail acting suspicious that got a good look at him. Also rumored they had him on camera somewhere.

It was a busy state park, I’m guessing others had seen him also. They had a sketch and likely some photos. They knew his general vehicle, these days it’s not difficult for them to get videos of him through security cameras and track him to some degree.
Someone says black sedan, the police go to the gas stations and businesses outside of the park and look for a black sedan driving past them down the street at that short window and fairly quickly narrow down the exact type of vehicle, age etc.
Once you have the color, year, and make of a vehicle you cross reference that with the owners being white male, 25-35, etc
