I get it. My in-laws do the same thing. Just remember, though, that if you got hit by a bus this afternoon, your bosses would post your job tomorrow.

Somebody tell me how much of an a-hole I am for resenting them for this.

Well both my parents died in their mid 50s, 4 months apart from cancer, while I was in my young 30s, so if you want they can come visit me and not your ungrateful arse.

What I wouldn't give to have either of my parents show up and spend some time with me.

They might be coming to tell you bad news.

Or, they just want to see you.

When your parents are gone, you’d give all you have just to spend one more day with them.

Get some perspective. They’re your parents.

I think I’ve figured out what’s going on here

Half of the respondents are millennials, who typically cannot take a shite without involving their parents. It’s true. Grown millennials are babies.

The other half are boomers who think the world revolves around them (also true for the majority).

My parents would absolutely NEVER do what the OP’s parents are doing. They respect my schedule and I respect theirs.

Not really but you’re an a hole for moving all the way across the country from them.

Damn youth is wasted on the young.

Work will always be there calling. And when you die they'll say oh well and put your job on indeed and barely give it a thought. Build your family not your work. As everyone says the family dies and the work will continue to strangle you. Oh and in the end it won't matter how much shite you do at work. Chances are they will give the promotion to the laziest one while you contemplate jumping ship to somewhere else. Spend time with your parents.

I was able to take my parents on a road trip memorial day weekend to see their 3 great grandchildren and their grandson and wife.

We drove 6 hours to just north of Birmingham. They are 79 and 78 it was such an honor for me to be able to do that for them. They had so much fun. Remember your parents are actual people as well.

It wouldn't bother me to put off whatever I was doing this weekend for my parents. They are my parents, after all.

When discussing a visit, I asked them to please hold off until late fall. They book the trip anyway

This part would piss me off but my parents would never have done that, so I really don't know how I would have responded.

The day will come that you won’t have to worry about your parents showing up uninvited. And that day you will remember this selfish post and weep.
