what’s the problem?
teachers nowadays also help kids discover their gender identity and aren’t required to inform their parents in the process. i thought teachers had a general license to decide whatever is best for your children these days, no?

(apparently the 4 downvotes didn’t pick up on it)

9th grade student, physical science. Behavioral problem. Of course had adhd. Met with parents, administrators, counselors, and school psychologist. I told the group that whatever he’s taking to control his diagnosed adhd, IT ISNT WORKING.
So either try something else, or maybe it’s a behavioral issue that needs to be addressed by me, the teacher, reinforced by the administrators and parents. That’s what was done. The kid got off meds, and his behavior and grades dramatically improved. One case, but fwiw, I think we are overmedicating young boys.

I wouldn’t trust a teacher to screen my dog for fleas, much less my kid for a medical diagnosis

A teacher with a bachelors degree in elementary education can state that a kid has ADHD, but it’s far from a diagnosis.
This is irrelevant because it has no medical bearing what so ever.

But you’d trust that already used syringe that the chick with the arm sleeve tattoo and nose ring gave you?? Weird flex but ok

I remember the scoliosis screenings every year, but we never had ADHD screenings.

It's the new scoliosis. Teachers in the 80s used to chomp at the bit to diagnose that
I remember that. The difference is that the don’t prescribe you meth for scoliosis.
Absolutely. I was talking more about the eagerness to diagnose than comparing the treatments. Teachers wanted so bad to be the one to find it.

My ex-wife swore he had ADD and found a quack school counselor to write something up and she took it to the doc and got him on meds without me knowing. It took a year and me paying out the arse for a full evaluation to confirm what I already knew. It was a scam. There are true ADHD cases out there, for sure, but I'd venture to say 80% of the so called diagnoses are behavioral, not medical issues.
Most of the time it’s because the parent wants to dip into the kids adderall script

A kindergarten teacher at Mansfield Elementary School used a Vanderbilt Assessment Scale to screen the students. It indicated that all 12 of her students have ADHD.
While this screening form is not unusual, the teacher wrote “ADHD Confirmed” at the bottom of the document without any intervention from health care professionals.
That teacher won't be employed soon. That's extremely illegal.

Amazing how big ADHD/ADD has gotten. People have no issues giving their kids pills the rest of their lives.

Exactly. Some idiot thought she knew what she was doing, and it turns out you don't get your MD by just looking at some stupid questionnaire for 10 minutes.

Recess was only 25 minutes, and 10 minutes of that is getting the kids lined up to go outside and come back in.
honestly this is one of the main reasons for half the damn problems with early childhood education.
Way too much time spent on class room busy work vs letting kids play and learn and burn off energy.

I had an involuntary chuckle when I read the OP title. Diagnose all of them with ADHD and then drug them so you’ll have a calm class.

Why are teachers diagnosing ADHD?
One of my english HS teachers told me I should speak to my dad about getting tested. I told my dad and he was furious. Asked what teacher for him to have "a talk with her," and I wouldn't tell him and just dropped it.
I did ask the teacher later why she said that, and she said my writing had signs of it as the points in my sentences were all over the place. Well written and on topic, but just weren't connecting right. Like my brain was moving faster than my ability to write them down. So I worked on that, once I knew that. Didn't really master it when just writing things out, but I was more conscious of it as I wrote and proofread, before turning things in.
Adding...a teacher doing a blanket test without reason is inappropriate, as kids will look for excuses if not approached properly. Becomes a crutch, even if just told once. Like someone going on WEBMD to look up an issue.

I'm not a doctor, but I'm all paid up on my union dues and useless.

Why we have so many cucks today. Adderall can hamper normal sexual hormones, so kids getting on this stuff early, especially if they don't really have the issue can be really harmful.
