Was it really necessary to move to travel ball? I understand it allows for playing unknown teams and stretching the teams. But didn’t college and professional players once come from schools and park rec? And the latter allowed for community and friendships locally
As someone who played little league in Lafayette with the only travel being for all stars at the end of the season: I infinitely prefer that to what exists now. Apparently the problem is that “competitive little league” doesn’t sound like it exists anymore in most places, utterly consumed by the travel ball absurdity.

If the kids go to a public school, don't see an issue.
Currently paying 21k a year in daycare costs

As someone who has elementary and middles school aged kids this travel ball and competitive sports thing is out of control.
It’s so bad the local leagues do not even want to have recreational teams .if you are lucky enough to find a recreational team the entire league may consist of 3 teams that play each other over and over again
The leagues treat these kids like red headed step kids often making it difficult to access facilities or have practices

Had a discussion recently with somebody who did this for their kid in a different sport. They talked about how it was an investment that paid off because it resulted in a scholarship for college. Things got very awkward and quiet when I pointed out they could have taken that money and paid for school (and a better school at that) with cash and had plenty of money left over.

lets also detail the families that send 10k or more on spending 6 days in disney world. or above middle class families that put their 16 yr old in a 55k+ vehicle to drive to school. Or mommas that buy chick fil a and starbees for their kids 5 days a week. lets go down this slope boys.
These same people will bitch about the cost of everything also.
But muh affordability

The kid has a nutritionist. Parents are spending $16k a year
And now they can’t afford one for mom

There is a great YouTube channel that puts together clips of all of those people.
It is a great watch. Makes Scruffy realize that he is pretty great when it comes to finances.

Travel baseball/youth club soccer/etc are a blight on sports. Forcing kids at a young age to specialize only hinders development.
Coaching high school sports nothing makes me more irate then when a good runner tells me they can’t do cross country because of their fricking club soccer/baseball coach telling them no. Drives me up a damn wall.

I swear its always only child families.
Yeah, I have 3 kids, cant sacrifice 2 to give 1 an opportunity. Our kids will play sports locally until they are 12, we are going to spend most of our time and resources on their education. Much higher likelihood of an ROI.
I dont blame parents at all for doing this with their kids though. There are worse things in the world.

Or she could do 10 minutes of research and buy groceries
Maybe she needs to throw the nutritionist a few more shekels for herself

The nutritionist doesn't have to stop at the son

Add "Braison" to the Travel Ball name list. That's a new one for me

We’re getting close to the point where these travel ball kid names should be showing up in the pros.
That would require having Dominicans in travel leagues.
