I do not require my kids to wear a helmet. We live in a gated community and are on the back street with very minimal traffic.

My 11 year old had it save his noggin a month ago.
I just don’t trust distracted drivers or my 11 and 8 yo making the correct choices all the time

No helmet. I also just dropped my son off at swimming lessons and he was the only one without goggles. I’ve always opened my eyes underwater like a normal person, guess I’m a bad parent.

Most head traumas experienced by kids on bikes are from falls where their head makes contact with concrete and asphalt, and have nothing to do with cars.

Teach them to ride better. My son was riding at 3 and all of the life lessons came early when he was still low to the ground and more pliable. He did the ‘shake the bars wildly’ thing once...but his nose may never be right again.

yes it’s a good habit. I’ve taken some awful falls off bikes and more than once the helmet saved me from a trip to the ER. One run in with an expansion joint in city park could have easily had me in a really bad place.
Get a good one, make sure it fits correctly, teach them to get used to wearing it. You only have one brain.

That's the majority of us..
Also used to ride in the back of trucks on the highway.
Neither were smart.

This. The bike crash I had that would have resulted in a TBI had nothing to do with a car. I also wiped out when I tried to make a sharp turn, but I just landed in the road and got scratched up. If there was a curb, I could have suffered a TBI. My brother wiped out on a skateboard and nearly had a TBI, but he was lucky to not land on his head. Skateboard, bike riding, roller skating, etc means helmet at all times.
