I bet we got some baws on here who are part of the problem. Parents these days are crazy. Braxxtynn threw a perfect strike! Meet me at Sonic!

I was a T-ball coach in the early 80s and parents were constantly chiming in about ways to make the lineup better back then.

I can only imagine how bad the parents are these days

It’s a bigger contributor to the coaching shortage.

I don't think that's really true. People have been reaming umps a new one since Amber Doubleday invented the game.

There are shortages of everything right because people are lazy, and there are more kid baseball games being played than ever, vastly increasing the demand for umps.

These umps don't know a damn thing. I got in a fight with one the other day because he called strike 3 on Mackinnseigh when it was 6" off the plate

I dunno…yelling at blue when he called strike 3 on Jaxxtyn when the ball was at his eyeballs feels justified. He’s not going to make it to the majors if the strike zone is that insistent.

Is there a shortage or is there just a lot more games being played now with so much travel ball going on. It’s basically year round now.

I’ve found that some of the moms are worse than the dads. We had a mom confront one of our coaches in the parking lot after a game. Of course, she didn’t have the first clue about what she was talking about.

I remember when I was a kid back in the late 60s/early 70s. The moms were brutal on those umps. And, no, I am not kidding.

I have kids in rec ball, and parents and coaches are arguing everything. I can only imagine travel ball. I saw a coach two weeks ago argue three different calls in a game over a two inning span. He was yelling at the ump, a 16 year old girl. Not to mention he was wrong on all three calls. One was a judgment call he didn't like, but the ump was actually correct. The other two, he just didn't know the actual rule. it was embarrassing to watch.

As someone who has umpired a lot over the years, I’ve never understood why umpires get so bothered by the parents. The things that bother me out there is the heat and long days. That’s it. I’ve just about always been able to block out any noise from off the field. And if something does bother me, I’ll get sarcastic with them and throw out some bait for the parents to grab on to. They end up looking like the idiots. And this is just little league I’ll do this with. For high school, you don’t acknowledge anyone in the stands. Maybe it’s just a confidence thing, idk, but my mindset has always been that the parents and fans have no clue what they’re talking about. They’re just ignorant and that might be what keeps me from being offended by the parents. Umpires just gotta learn to ignore it, get better, and build more confidence so that you’re not afraid of the parents anymore. If you’re scared of being yelled at before you even step on the field, you might as well just go home.

I had a very similar approach, I could tune out the majority of the noise, and umped/reffed the way I played sports, with a poker face, I would listen to a coach but once a decision was made it's not getting reversed, and I, like most officials had a threshold, I would put up with a fair amount of guff but when you crossed over that threhold you were gone
