Wouldn't somebody have cancelled the drop if winds were too high?

I saw a news interview with the Adj General. He said they got all the injured to the hospital quickly in the middle of the night and what a great training event. You can't get any more realistic training than what happened here tonight for all that were involved.

300 feet is the minimum.
My buddy jumped from 300 feet on Point Salinas Airfield, Grenada. Two weeks later he was ETS'd and enrolling for the fall quarter at Louisiana Tech. They didn't know anything about gradual transitions in those days.

Doc gives update. Doesn’t sound too bad, fortunately LINK

Finally got update from family that was there (Forrest General, surgical tech)
18 of the 22 injured were brought to Forrest General pretty quickly. No life threatening injuries were reported. Few broken backs, collar bones, legs, arms, dislocated hip, etc.
All in all, seems like the best outcome we could have hoped for. Could have been much worse.

Wasn’t on the aircrew. The DZ is 1/3 trees. Hopefully all the jumpers recover.

"Okay, men. You've got a 1 in 3 chance of landing in the trees. Good luck!
I mean, WTF? Surely there's some planning that takes place beforehand that emphasis landing on the 2/3rds of the DZ that isn't covered with trees. This is somebody's fault, because I don't think they intended to put a company of paratroopers in the trees.

Yep.... AF sq/cc and maybe his boss will be relieved of command

I believe it’s the LZ, that’s also surveyed as a DZ. It’s not wide open like some of the other LZs, but I haven’t looked at the survey in years.

Wasn’t on the AF. And removing a SQ/CC and his boss is only in the movies.

What?
Happens all the time. Not familiar with AF ops but recall SecAF and CSAF being fired for nuke issues.
The Navy will fire a cc once a year for some dumb shite aircrews do
ETA: if you are a 130 bubba, you have probably have more insight on the issue, my apologies. We worked with east range a few times and found its leadership grossly incompetent.

I worked up there and when I saw this before the paratroopers part I thought it was from dehydration. See a lot of units from all over buying everything but electrolytes.
Can’t imagine landing in a tree but I couldn’t jump out of a perfectly good airplane, that takes more guts then I got.

On a bad drop, the crew will get in trouble. I’ve never heard of it going any further than that.
I’m not saying leadership doesn’t ever get fired, I’m just saying they won’t for this.

Dude how is this not on the aircrew?
Posted on 10/5/19 at 7:20 am to GeauxxxTigers23
Also what’s with the army’s obsession with jumping out of airplanes? It’s a stupid and outdated insertion method.
Posted on 10/5/19 at 7:44 am to GeauxxxTigers23
I don't know all the details, but from what I have heard through the bro network is the drop was on the DZ, not off the DZ. The army chose to jump into the LZ at Aux 1, 1/3 of the surveyed DZ is trees.
