So some asshat banged their door into my 2016 car. Car is a high gloss black and they must have been in a truck as the ding is way up on my door and very noticeable. It's a decent indent in the body panel.

Has anyone tried the paintless dent repair? I have heard they heat and cool the metal to get it to pop out. Will that work on something small like a door ding? Any idea on cost?

Yes, someone hit my '15 Silverado rear driver's side door...

Cost $450, less than my deductible.. You wouldn't even know it was done... Best part, you don't have to worry about them matching your paint...

No, they do not heat the metal...

No way that is going to look good when its finished.

Seriously though, the 1st criteria is that the metal is not "creased". If it is, it will need bodywork and paint.

Not true... My dent was within a crease.. Dude had no problem at all...

Took him about 4 hours, so no rental car was needed... and he came to my house..

Yes, brought it to place in Lafayette. It took him 30 minutes and cost me $100 bucks. Came out perfectly you can't tell I ever had a ding.

I got it done in Lake Charles on my wife's vehicle (no pics of wife). It is a dark gray color.

Same thing... Big door ding from the corner of a door. Took out the ding for $75.

heard the guy on Seigen, in the shopping center right pass Jack in the Box on the right is amazing with his skills. No heat just a long tool he went back and forth with is what they said.

Two people have told me he got there dents out of fenders for $50.

I should have probably looked around but most of those places aren't open on the weekend and are closed before I get off work.

I've used him. He was great. It was $50. Was the true definition of a "ding" though.

Had a pretty bad dent removed form a door, they were able to straighten about 99% reducing it from a major dent to a small ding, was very happen with the outcome, was about a 100 bucks.

I was not able to watch them do it, but I believe they just use "old school" dolly blocks, bars, and body hammer to work the dents out, as was common before shops just started using filler and replacing whole panels. In the 1950s/60s they would coat the paint with gear oil to protect it while hammering out the damage.

I get em done for 150 per dent at dealerships on the used car side...

They are great.

I've also seen the heat and cool method work fine on push dents....see internet

Got two taken out of the hood in my Tahoe. Looked like hail dings. 60 bucks and about 5 minutes of work. Can't tell they were there at all.
