The irony is that the Dutch have been trying to get in this guy's house for years,
Seems pretty easy to accomplish that. “Hello, neighbor, I just moved in down the street. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Hans, also a fugitive Nazi, who like yourself loves Hitler and stolen artwork. Let’s be friends. Let’s hang out together and we can practice our Nazi salute and goose stepping together for old times sake. My what a nice painting you have hanging above your sofa. Mind if I take a picture? Great. Now would you like some bundt cake? Oh, and down with the jews.”
Mystery solved.

Surprised Cracker Barrel hadn't acquired it years ago.

To be fair, I wouldn't give it back. Take me to court.

Painting Stolen by Nazis
quote:
belonged to Jacques Goudstikker, a prominent Dutch-Jewish art dealer
All things the Nazis stole seemingly were the property of a particular group, and no others.

None of the story makes sense. The family’s been pretty open and notorious with their inheritance. The article says they have the daughter’s facebook pics dating back 2012 with another stolen 17th century painting on the wall.
Now an investigator randomly shows up in Argentina and happens to notice for sale sign in front of the house…lo and behold he finds the listing pics have the other painting that has eluded them for more than a decade?
At best it’s a fictional story fabricated to hide the real story.

Do people still not know that many Nazis fled to Argentina?
I’d wager that more than half of our under 25 population don’t.

The shock is the blunder made by the sisters and/or real estate agent to show the stolen painting in the listing photos. The sisters have been hiding the painting since the 1978 death of their Nazi father.
Yep and they should put all their names out in the media. Not that locals would seem to care...
