I think you're stretching it here, unless you think it's going to surpass $715 million.

I wonder about the Northshore. Not too far from Hattiesburg.

Do PCP docs prescribe this stuff, or is it the pain specialists?

from elsewhere on the web:

KUTV) A Utah County company is at the center of a scathing CBS News investigation, and witnesses tell us Western Medical of American Fork was raided by almost two dozen federal and state agents back in September of last year.

CBS says Western Medical was part of a scheme that involved sending patients, from across the nation, millions of dollars in medications they did not order. The medications are made by compounding pharmacies which mix custom drugs for doctors. In this case, according to CBS, the pharmacy teamed up with Western Medical and added up outrageous bills to Medicare and private insurance companies.Last April John Piccard received a call from a telemarketer telling him about unorthodox treatments for pain. He gave the caller on the other end of the line the go ahead to speak with his doctor. He says three months later he received three medical creams that he didn't order and his insurance company was billed about $19,000.Rachel Wertz used to work at Western Medical in the billing department, she says a bill that large is not uncommon.

"Oh no, not for three, $18,000 dollars for one month of creams that's about right," she said.Western Medical would allegedly tell people they called, that the creams for pain were free, thanks to their insurance companies. If the person on the other end of the line would agree, Western Medical would then tell doctors their patients were interested in the creams, and send the doctors pre-written prescriptions that the doctors would then fill out. {}Sources tell CBS News that Western Medical would collect up to 200 prescriptions a day and then bill Medicare and private insurance companies for more than a $1million a week.Dennis Maynes works in the same building in American Fork where Western Medical set up shop.{} He says the company was doing a lot of business.

Is this connected to this:
Unconfirmed comment from "elsewhere".

Quote:
The first counselor in the Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, MS) ward bishopric was raided by the fbi last week. His planes, real estate, bank accounts, expensive vheicles and helicopter were seized. The total amount seized exceeded 15mil. The counselor owns a compounding pharmacy and has scammed tax payers and insurance companies billions by fraudulent billing for the cream. Unfortunately, a large majority of the ward is caught up in the scandal. The bishop is this man's brother in law and owns an interest in the company. The executive secretary of the ward is the man's corporate accountant. There are many doctors in the ward who invested in the compounding and were pushing the creams on patients for personal financial gain. The stake president is also a doctor. At this time, there have been no releasing of leaders. No arrests have been made. Raids occurred in MS, AL, FL, and UT. The counselor had pharmacies in all of these states. There is no reporting about this in UT but you can read about it in local MS news

Smackover is absolutely right. Huge in toxicology still. Everyone has a syndication or series or shares model and everyone has a "nationally respected healthcare attorney" who has vetted it but if you take off your $ blinders and look at what they are offering its clearly illegal. Just get a simple OIG opinion on these models and that would show them the misconception behind it.

I deal with ortho docs mostly so I'm not sure. That being said..... If there's a dollar, there's a way

Both. And ortho. Pretty much anyone that treats pain of most any kind. Like I said before, it's no different than many other meds that cost thousands of dollars/month. Insurers set the price. The problem is shady marketing schemes and kickbacks. The shittiest thing it the abuse has lead to a lack of coverage and it really does work and can be used for a multitude of things.

Not sure what the set up was here but I've been offered all kinds of shite from these places. I'm surprised they haven't gotten in more trouble sooner.

I know many physicians that bought into owning their own compound pharmacy at 2-4%. What does this mean for them I wonder.

They pay $2k/share? That seems to be the going rate, with a promised pay out of $10-15k/share a month with no real risk of investment. The laws are VERY vague, but if it smells like a kickback, it probably is. Who knows how far they will go with it. This sounds like they took the shite insane levels.

Not anymore. Medicare just crushed reimbursement for toxicology and BCBSAL is the first commercial carrier to follow suit. Others will quickly react in-kind. There will be a massive rush to the "next big thing" though. That govt money is like crack.

Genetic testing. Arkansas is usually last to see it because BCBS of AR covers NONE of it. I hate to see them quit covering it. What they need to do is just negotiate reasonable rates. I mean, it's the fricking insurances that set the prices to begin with. What they don't tell you is how many insurance company execs or their close friends/relatives invest in these things early on. They know where the money will be going and get in early. Just like with anything else, when it hits the feeding frenzy stage, the party is over.

Correct. Women's Health docs won't know what hit them.

Pain stuff was a perfect storm because those docs are , by and large, the bottom of the barrel. A step above late-term abortion docs and MD's from AR who post on the OT.

5k here but it's played out. They were too late to the game and actually lost their investments.

Piss cups are also down the drain.

Well, they can get in on the genetic testing and some of the other new bullshite. Allergy is another I've seen being pimped. Same shite, different angle. But once again, they don't dictate the prices. The insurers do. The problem is deeper and more pervasive than some pharmacy in Mississippi.
