Pain creams actually work for patients, if Medicare and other insurance companies were set up for these payments to be made then so be it. There's plenty of options physicians can choose from to help patients, if this option helps a patient and pays them well, then it's going to be hard to stop that until the payments aren't there anymore. More of our tax dollars being abused by our wonderful government. Hope and change people. Hope and change.

This. Insurance pay ridiculous amounts for some things and less than cost on others. The INSURANCE company sets the price, not the pharmacy. Now enticements from the pharmacies to the physicians is a no go. How is this any different than $1000 insulin? Insurers have skewed shite for their own reasons. Some places pushed the limits on this shite and are getting put in check. But a legit compounding pharmacy can mix legit topical pain creams and legitimately get thousands of dollars/tube. It's very simple for insurers to say "No. We're not gonna pay that."

These pharmacists, and MD's, knew exactly what they were doing.

They know it, and they do it anyway.
The smart ones had their cash hidden in a location they didn't own, because they raid it all.
All the cash is seized.

I'm not saying there wasn't some bullshite going on. It just makes it sound like ALL compounding pharmacies are bad and pain cream itself is a scam.

My father owns one.

They aren't scams.
But what some of these folks did gets them a target painted on their backs quickly.

They usually know the hammer is comming too. They don't stop what they're doing, because that's suspicious too. I'm saying, hide the cash well.

Greed. It only cost about $100/tube to mix it. Some insurers pay up to $3500/tube. The scam is enticing doctors to overwrite it and pay kickbacks. Some places were even giving placebos basically to elevate profits even further and some other shady "marketing" practices.

Cash price for same $100 tube would be about $350 with no insurance.

They'll bond out and probably lose their license.

No jail time, no fines.

Gotcha I'm sure he gets defensive too when he sees shite like this and it paints them all in a bad light. And no one should begrudge the pharmacies for accepting what insurance pays. Not to mention, it's not cheap to open a compounding pharmacy.

This is a severe misconception. Federal prison isn't Angola but it isn't no country club either.

they probably signed documents and took yearly "training sessions" about ethics and integrity etc. There's been a huge crackdown on Medicare fraud in the Gulf Coast and fla.

These dudes knew they would get caught, I agree.

They know they're gonna get caught, and say to themselves either back off the throttle and see if they get hammered(which they will anyway), or keep going and get busted/roll the dice.

Like what somebody already mentioned, greed does it.

This was not so much the pain creams but more the scar creams which reimbursed 10x more.

Again, this was what the private insurance companies agreed to pay. Flood the market, then throttle back the reimbursements.

It's their MO.

Now, when doctors and pharmacies get greedy and start doing illegal shite (kick backs, inducement to refer), let em have it.

Pain creams are still cheaper than getting someone hooked on pills.

Short and most importantly (which I think you were implying?) long term. Massive savings.
