Paging Napoleon: I have a question about a refrigerator.

So, I have a GE Profile refrigerator that just instantly crapped out last night while I was loading it up with beer for the game. Compressor, fans, lights, front control panel all just instantaneously died. The breaker wasn’t tripped and the ice maker still had a light on it when I opened it up to turn the power switch off there. The main cord is getting power. Does this sound like the problem is most likely the inverter board?

You got power going to your motherboard?

Yeah. It’s run into the PSU with a 24 pin connector. Seasonic 1200 watt platinum. My computer is working fine.

You mean the Main Control Board I assume?

order a new inverter bd and if it doesn't fix it then sell it on ebay. Or return to store if they are cool with that.

I'm just here to say LG fridges suck

Check the internal breaker, all LG units have one. It’s easy to do.

There are a few others who have contributed alongside Napoleon.

yep, but that is where wee are today, fridges and even freezers have small computers in them with sometimes as many as 3 circuit boards in them (one for each separate zone) and about 30 frickin wires running to sensors for everything so it can super duper high efficient instead of just being like the old ones with 5 wires running to the defrost timer and a simple thermostat that controls it

Yeah but that extra 3% in energy saving is so worth it.

What kind of beer were you putting in it? That could be the problem.

Bonus problem from the thread:
I have a Frigidaire gallery series that’s a few months old, and it will not spit out whole cubes of ice, only crushed...
I’ve tried taking everything out and putting it back together, and unplugged and replugged it in, but it won’t dispense whole cubes for some reason

quote:This is unfortunately a common problem with many refrigerators. One trick that can work is by turning the ice setting from crushed to cubed. Good luck.

We have a Samsung piece of crap side by side. Since day one, it has never spit out cubes of ice —- only crushed. Plus the seal on this refrigerator is horrendous.
So much in fact, I just ordered a new refrigerator. KitchenAid KRMF706ESS. Free shipping, no sales tax and comes with 10 year extended warranty and a $200 mail-in rebate. All in all, I’ll pay $2659 to my door and then make a claim with my AMEX card for price protection to receive another $250 back (found at another store for less but didn’t come with 10 year extended warranty).
This thread, plus my wife’s constant displeasure of our current refrigerator, helped push me into purchasing today.

personannly i think its to make them too expensive to fix but cost more to buy kinda thing.
my brothers samsung side by side has 4 "control" motherboards (defrost control board, freezer control board, refrigeration control board, crisper drawer control board, plus a main power supply board to run power to all of those boards plus 2 or 3 sensors spread out sending info to each of those boards for each of those zones

selector solenoid busted. there is an arm in the ice bin moved by a solenoid in the back of the unit. If it fails open you only get crushed ice.
